Contract: 0.5 FTE Term
The Alberta Classical Academy is hiring a 0.5 Grade 1 Teacher for the 2025/2026 academic year at its Bridgeland campus.
The Alberta Classical Academy is a public charter school authority that began operating in 2022 and now has three schools in Calgary and Edmonton. We offer an academically rigorous liberal arts education focused on developing the knowledge virtues and habits befitting free citizens. Among our programs distinct features are: a smartphone-free environment; the use of traditional pedagogy and teacher-led classrooms; a rich curriculum centered on classical and enduring works of literature philosophy and art; a focus on character and the nurturing of virtues; a culture of friendship and leisure (schol); and an explicit commitment to the pursuit of truth beauty and wisdom.
Grammar School Teachers lay the early foundation for students intellectual and moral development and habit formation through classical instruction that inspires wonder and promotes schol. They instruct students on subjects such as literature history philosophy science and mathematics according to the Trivium and Quadrivium to create a well-rounded and comprehensive classical education program.
The Grammar School Teacher will report to the Principal and Associate Principal and will be responsible for meeting the expectations of the Education Act the Alberta Teaching Quality Standard and the Policies and Administrative Procedures of the Alberta Classical Academy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Education
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or ability to obtain one)
- Alignment with Calgary Classical Academys mission and vision
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Classroom teaching experience in the early grammar (elementary) stage
Responsibilities - Adhere to the professional standards in the Teaching Quality Standards (TQS) and teach the required education programs pursuant to the Education Act;
- Competently plan for execute and assess instruction that leads students to master curricular outcomes using a rigorous classical curriculum methods and activities;
- Integrate school-defined goals and objectives into lessons as outlined in the charter;
- Regularly assess student performance and communicate results to students parents and school administration;
- Manage the class by setting clear expectations of behavior establishing consistent routines and promoting student virtue and self-discipline;
- Establish and maintain a highly ordered classroom culture where scholars and staff demonstrate and cultivate fundamental habits of virtue consistent with the charter;
- Work with grade-level team to ensure consistency among the grade;
- Work closely with school leadership and support teams to develop curriculum instruction and assessment practices that promote inclusive learning;
- Build relationships and communicate effectively with parents;
- Rigorously and regularly pursue philosophical and practical professional growth;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal subject to the teachers contract of employment and the Education Act.

- Knowledge of and demonstrated excellence in the craft of teaching;
- A desire to support and raise up students in their learning;
- Management of a classical classroom that uses direct instruction discipline structure and high expectations for all to achieve measurable academic and moral success;
- An understanding of the science of reading and practical experience in its delivery;
- Strong math knowledge; experience with Singapore Math is an asset;
- A strong understanding of effective and balanced assessment practices;
- Ability to analyze data and skills to format data into effective programs and instructional decisions;
- A commitment to supporting students to achieve personal excellence and lead lives of virtue;
- An understanding of the classical liberal arts tradition and of the ends it is meant to achieve;
- A strong desire to support and advance the philosophy and purpose of the Calgary Classical Academy;
- A willingness to contribute to school culture through committee work and extracurricular activities;
- A strong sense of intellectual moral and aesthetic discernment;
- The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Intellectual seriousness and depth and a commitment to learning for its own sake;
- Well-developed interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students staff administration parents and the community.
