Job Title: General Clerk

Locations: Houston McAllen
Employment Type: Contract
Reports To: Office Manager

Position Summary:

The General Clerk provides administrative and receptionist support to the litigation staff of the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of Texas. This role ensures the efficient operation of the office by managing communications handling documents coordinating case and travel logistics and assisting in clerical functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact by greeting visitors and managing incoming telephone calls.
  • Enforce administrative rules regarding facility access; monitor security systems including CCTV.
  • Receive screen and distribute incoming mail and packages.
  • Prepare and coordinate travel arrangements for witnesses and litigation staff.
  • Maintain and update legal case files using Caseview; assist in opening and closing case files.
  • Communicate changes to court dockets and maintain updated court calendars.
  • Assist legal staff with coordination of new arrest notifications and appeals.
  • Support the management of government vehicles (tracking keys fuel cards mileage logs).
  • Participate in annual records inventory and property management activities.
  • Produce a variety of documents using Microsoft Word and other MS Office programs.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support litigation operations.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Capable of working independently with sound judgment and initiative.
  • Experience in handling clerical tasks maintaining files and working with databases.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of staff clients and visitors.
