Job Description

TITLE: Recess Coach

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or have completed the 12th grade.

  • Knowledge and experience working with children in coordinating games and sports.

  • Consideration will be given to any experience which provides knowledge skill and ability in a skill area in which instruction is to be given.

  • Working irregular hours split shifts and possible afterschool or evenings may be required.

  • This is a seasonal/on-demand part time position based on program offerings.

  • Computer skills required for program planning and information.

  • Available for alll recess periods each school day throughout the year.

  • Desire to learn skills to support recess programming.

  • Ability to engage and inspire kindergarten through 8th grade students.

  • Ability to set clear goals and follow through with flexible and creative problem solving.

REPORTS TO: Principal

GOAL:

The Recess Coach partners with the Playworks Site Coordinatorin the implementation of structured recess program during the TeamUp weeks when the Site Coordinator is on-site. The Recess Coach (Recess Team) facilitates recess and the management of Junior Coaches during the School Implementation weeks when the Playworks Site Coordinator is not on-site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with the Site Coordinator to manage all recess periods and the Junior Coach Program during TeamUp implementation weeks.

  • Independently manage all recess periods and the management and supervision of Junior Coaches during School Implementation weeks.

  • Model Playworks core values program implementation group management and rapport building strategies for students and school staff.

  • Meet with Site-Coordinator for coaching feedback and best practice sharing during TeamUp weeks.

  • Attend Playworks TeamUp trainings which may take place during or out of school time.

  • Meet monthly with Recess Coach Manager (school administrator) regarding program quality.

  • Must participate in ongoing coaching and consultation in game facilitation group management safety and systems.

  • Youth leadership and program assessment are provided throughout the school year

  • Must access and follow Playworks Playbook Recess Coach Manual and TeamUp resources

  • Must participate in Playworks local community and national network

Classified Hourly Placement Schedule grade 2.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
