Job Description

Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor

Duty Days:261 Days
Wage/Hour Status:Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: A07 8HR

Qualifications:

College hours high school diploma or GED (preferred)

Professional certification in vehicle repair; ASE certification (preferred)

Formal training in vehicle repair (preferred)

Certificate for Vehicle Inspections (preferred)

Five years mechanical experience in vehicle repair and/or other related experience

Able to understand and execute verbal and written orders and to work productively without continual supervision

Have or be able to obtain a valid commercial drivers license

Proficient in the use of personal computer

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Good communication skills

Tools of the trade to be provided by the M&O department

Primary Purpose:

Make mechanical repairs to the districts fleet while providing support in the daily requirements of the Maintenance & Operations department.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Able to diagnose mechanical and electrical air conditioning problems and effect repair.
  2. Overhaul engines (gasoline and diesel) transmissions brakes (mechanical and air) front ends and rear ends.
  3. Able to remove repair starters alternators carburetors fuel pumps injectors etc.
  4. Tune and analyze engines i.e. proficient in the use of exhaust and engine analyzers.
  5. After-hours and weekend work may be necessary from time to time.
  6. Responsible for the upkeep repair replacement and protection of assigned tools. Certain large tools and equipment are supplied by the district.
  7. Maintain proficiency with upgraded fleet vehicles.
  8. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate by the district.

Equipment Used:

Computer meters gages specialty test equipment ladders hoists hand and power tools light truck or van and other department vehicles.

Working Conditions:

Moderate walking standing climbing heavy lifting carrying stooping bending kneeling and reaching. Work outside and inside around moving objects vehicles and machinery with moving parts. Exposed to dampness and humidity toxic chemicals exhaust fumes gasoline and diesel fuel.
