Job Description

Instructional Assistant - Wellness Room

FTE: 4hrs/day - .5 FTE - 178 Workday Calendar

POSITION START DATE:August 20 2025

TITLE: Wellness Room Instructional Assistant Elementary Middle and High School

REPORTS TO: School Administrator and/or designee

PURPOSE

The Wellness Room Instructional Assistant staffs and supports the Wellness Room to meet the educational needs of students who from social emotional and behavioral intervention instruction support and practice. The Assistant may participate as a member of a collaborative team to maintain and manage a Wellness Room intervention caseload of students.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from Administrator and may receive guidance and direction from Administrative Assistant and/or behavior specialist. Exercises no supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform successfully in this position an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Multi-tiered Systems of Support
  • Knowledge of techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management in settings involving students with moderate to severe learning social/behavioral challenges
  • Positive attitude and works well with children
  • Comprehend and follow written and oral instructions and complete work within established timelines
  • Flexible and able to work harmoniously with others
  • Willing to learn and implement new programs
  • Proficient English usage grammar and punctuation skills
  • Basic technology skills
  • Ability to stay calm during high stress situations

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies plans and implements appropriate social emotional lessons based on the individual needs of students
  • Communicates with students during instruction and interpersonal interaction using language structure tone and body language that promotes positive student behavior conflict resolution and problem solving effective management of power struggles and applies proactive strategies for management of escalating behavior
  • Collects and records data on students intervention progress
  • Collaborates with building staff to maintain and manage a Wellness Room intervention referral process
  • Develops an intervention schedule in collaboration with classroom teachers and building leaders
  • Escorts students to various locations in the facility including to and from classrooms
  • Communicates as a member of the building team with other education staff behavior/treatment staff and parents under the direction or upon request of the building administrator
  • In partnership with the District Behavior and Mental Health Coordinator plans and prepares materials for instructional activities
  • Utilizes crisis prevention intervention strategies including when necessary the use of safe restraint techniques
  • Completes routine clerical tasks and maintains data collection system
  • Assists with maintenance of a clean safe and healthy Wellness Room
  • Provides students a safe and secure environment at all times. This may include Wellness Room facilitation and supervision
  • Attends workshop training related to area of assignment; applying training to instructional and supervision responsibilities
  • Helps students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promote safety of the students by helping them develop self-confidence
  • Maintains a confidential non-preferential non-judgmental manner towards the students staff and program
  • Administers minor first aid

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Sherwood School District 88J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter #103.
