What is CASA

The City Arts and Sciences Academy (CASA) is a newly imagined grade 6-12 school for Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM). CASA opens in September 2025 with 200 students in grades 6 and 9 and will over three years to a full grade 6-12 school. CASA will integrate advanced curricula interdisciplinary project-based learning and real-world applications to inspire and engage students from diverse backgrounds.

CASA utilizes the unique opportunities within the Lynn community to build innovative responsive and meaningful project-based learning experiences for all students. Our commitment to a dynamic schedule allows students to learn in authentic collaborative and inter/transdisciplinary ways. Because teacher collaboration and inspiration is foundational to our curriculum we ensure common planning time and ongoing professional development for our faculty. Plans prepares and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

Incorporates goals competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to the students lived experience and to the Lynn community.

Collaborates with community partners and other teachers.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate participate in and lead the creation of an integrated interdisciplinary arts-infused project-based curriculum including developing and assessing exhibitions.

2. Along with other faculty participate in strategic planning and department management. Areas include but are not limited to assessment piloting and creating new curricula piloting and creating cross-discipline short and long-term projects implementing technology student case management and exhibition/competition/partnership participation.

3. Communicate regularly with parents/caregivers about student progress.

4. Accept flexible assignments such as team and interdisciplinary teaching working with different age groups and ability levels etc.

5. Work with university college and community collaborators.

6. Perform general administrative tasks associated with teaching learning and data cycles.

7. Align the teaching and learning cycles to connect to school-wide student learning expectations and school-wide learning experiences.

8. Participate in a paid forty-hour summer institute.

9. Other duties as assigned.

Job Details:

Instructional Planning & Teaching

Design and implement standards-based (MA Arts Curriculum Frameworks) lesson plans with clear objectives in three-dimensional studio arts.

Teach foundational and advanced techniques in sculpture ceramics and mixed media emphasizing form balance texture and spatial awareness.

Guide students in working with a variety of materials such as clay wood plaster metal found objects and fiber arts.

Introduce hand-building wheel-throwing and ceramic glazing techniques to support a robust clay program.

Engage students in exploratory and experimental approaches to sculptural forms incorporating sustainable and unconventional materials.

Encourage students to develop a personal artistic voice through hands-on projects and creative problem-solving.

Integrate historical and contemporary sculptors particularly those from diverse cultural backgrounds into the curriculum to foster artistic awareness.

Support students in portfolio development for post-secondary education or career pathways in fine arts sculpture ceramics and related fields.

Assessment & Student Growth

Use a variety of formal and informal assessments (sketchbook planning critiques rubrics exhibitions) to measure student progress.

Support students in analyzing and discussing their work and the work of others through structured critiques.

Foster risk-taking and iterative design emphasizing process as well as final outcomes.

Classroom & Studio Environment

Establish a functional and inspiring 3D studio ensuring proper safety protocols for tools kilns and materials.

Maintain studio spaces tools and equipment including clay reclaiming kiln operation and sculpture workstations.

Foster a collaborative studio culture where students take ownership of materials and workspace responsibilities.

Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices that celebrate diverse traditions in sculpture and three-dimensional art.

Collaboration & Professional Development

Work collaboratively with CASAs interdisciplinary faculty to develop cross-curricular projects.

Engage in ongoing professional learning related to sculpture ceramics and fine arts instruction.

Participate in school-wide exhibitions showcases and community arts events.

Mentor students interested in fine arts careers apprenticeships and local/regional art competitions.

School Engagement & Additional Duties

Participate in CASAs unique project-based learning initiatives.

Organize and curate student work for school exhibitions public showcases and local galleries.

Serve as an advisor or mentor for students in art-related extracurriculars.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the school leadership team.

Qualifications:

1. Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in the specific subject area(s) in Art/Visual Art 5-12.

2. Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university; Masters Degree preferred.

3. SEI Endorsement as applicable.

4. Experience in urban schools preferred.

5. Enthusiasm for and/or experience with project-based learning multidisciplinary curriculum STEAM pedagogy and the willingness to develop professionally in these areas.

6. A desire to increase skills and ability to deliver strong innovative project-based learning across many disciplines.

7. Commitment to the arts as an important element in a complete education.

8. Commitment to cultural ethnic and linguistic diversity as an element in a complete education.

9. Commitment to and demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom.

10. Enthusiasm and eagerness to work at a new school be a founding team member and build school culture.

11. Ability to take on responsibilities and prioritize quickly.
