- POSITION SUMMARY
The Transition Program Teacher serves students ages 18-21 who require intensive support and
instruction. The home base for the program is located at Sky Valley Education Center although
students spend a great deal of time in community settings practicing social and prevocational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must possess appropriate Washington State certification endorsed in special education.
2. Vocational certification preferred.
3. Experience with Developmentally Delayed young adults.
4. Experience in developing job sites in a community based program.
5. Experience in collaboration and building partnerships with agencies.
6. Prior experience in the school setting preferred.
7. Ability to communicate effectively with students parents and staff.
8. Ability to work with minimum direction but as an effective member of the team.
9. Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Teachers salary placement is based on the approved District salary schedule for the BASE and local TRI
pay (depending upon experience degrees and post baccalaureate college credits). Salary is adjusted
for less than full time equivalent (1.0 FTE). Benefits include: health dental vision long-term disability

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a. Special education teacher
1. Assist students with work based learning opportunities in the school and community.
2. Ability and experience adapting curriculum and teaching students with a wide range of abilities.
3. Understanding and appreciation of the development of the adolescent entering adulthood.
4. Knowledge of adult learning styles and belief that adults can and should manage their own
learning to the best of their ability.
Transition specialist
1. Knowledge of agencies providing services for the students and ability to help students access
those services.
2. Participation in Snohomish County Transition Council.
3. Vocational knowledge for career exploration job training job search job application process
and job retention.
4. Develop relationships with the Community Access entities; for training
develop policies and procedures for safely accessing public
transportation and using these entities appropriately; train staff and
students to use entities.
Coordinator
1. Hold vision for Monroe Transition Center and be able to translate it into policies procedures and program consistent with District policy and procedures.
2. Train and supervise para-educators to be Job and Community Coaches working independently in the community.
3. Teach job development and job coaching to para- educators and supervise their work.
4. Develop and maintain supportive relationships with employers service providers community access entities staff students and parents.
5. Train staff and students to use Print Internet and other resources.
6. Schedule and monitor individual student programs for efficient use of resources.
7. Provide instruction on and provide documentation of work place safety and child labor laws in accordance with occupation health and safety standards and department of labor regulations.
8. Ensure that appropriate documentation and records are maintained for all work related needs and help them succeed both academically and socially. - Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate.
- Demonstrate ability to honor confidentiality and appropriately apply the requirement of the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
This is a sedentary position with light work that involves sitting a portion of the time but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound near and far vision depth perception; handling and working with
educational and psychological materials; and providing highly technical oral and written information and reports.
The job is performed with the majority of the spent indoors and under minimal temperature variations; a portion of the day will be time spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This position is that of classroom teacher and is represented by the Monroe Education Association collective bargaining unit. The position will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement. Employee is required to complete all mandatory district trainings.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
The classroom teacher shall be evaluated by the Building Principal according to currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employees performance of the above position responsibilities.
