The Department of Public Safety Division of Statewide Services is seeking an Office Assistant II to join the Permits and Licensing Unit. This entry-level support-based role provides an excellent opportunity to build valuable skills in applying criminal justice information policies procedures and precedentsparticularly in administrative and customer service settings. OUR ORGANIZATION MISSION AND CULTURE:
The Applicant Records and Licensing Unit plays a vital role within the Division of Statewide Services and the Department of Public Safety supporting the departments mission to ensure public safety and enforce fish and wildlife laws. This teams primary objective is to provide timely accurate information and assistance to colleagues partner agencies and the public.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is based at the Department of Public Safetys Headquarters building located at 5700 East Tudor Road in Anchorage with the stunning Chugach Mountains as its backdrop. The office environment promotes collaboration with individual workstations in an open area and shared stations at the front desk where team members engage directly with the public
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).
Special Note:
High school diploma equivalent means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular drivers license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
A copy of academic transcripts if using education to meet the minimum qualifications.
Three (3) professional references with current contact information. Two (2) of the professional references must be current or former supervisors.
BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position and required access to APSIN an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
