Heartland AEA has a full-time Library Assistant position available based out of the Johnston office. The number of working days is 199.
The Library Assistant will provide students educators and staff with access to well-maintained instructional materials (physical and digital). Responsibilities include:
- Provide direct service to educators and staff in finding and recommending a variety of physical and electronic resources. Includes phone email virtual and in-person support.
- Contribute to the smooth workflow of the library (shelving pulling materials shipping checking in etc.).
- Maintain the physical collection including repair identifying damaged items checking kits etc.
- Maintain or enter data in required files inventories and databases including but not limited to journals specialized databases such as MARC cataloging circulation system and others.
- Maintain and circulate specialized collections that support specific curriculum areas.
- Work collaboratively with other library assistants to identify and respond to change in the workflow and in providing direct service to library users.
- Choose books to support teacher theme units and professional development.
- Respond to teacher requests for information and resources in the INFO online chat system.
This position has some flexibility. The work schedule could be 30-34 hours a week during the school year and 3.5 to 7. 5 hours a week during the summer. Single insurance sick leave and personal leave are included in the benefits package. Family insurance can be purchased at a reduced rate.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with computers and basic programs such as Word and Excel and online databases.
- Experience working in a library is preferred.
- A background check is a condition of employment.
