Job Description

JOB TITLE: Freshmen and High School Student Success CoachJob Purpose Statement: Under the direction of the Lewiston High School Principal the Freshmen and High School Student Success Coach is responsible for the successful creation and implementation of the Freshmen and Academic Student Success Program to ensure student success and retention. The coach designs and directs a comprehensive program to help ensure each students success throughout high school. This program provides intensive supports to students transitioning from the middle school into the high school; monitors student progress through each grade level at the high school with particular emphasis on the freshmen and sophomore years. The incumbent will have a student-centered approach and possess the ability to successfully cultivate positive connections with students and build collaborative relationships with parents school administrators faculty and staff community members and other stakeholders to help ensure student success. RESPONSIBILITIESEssential Job Functions:Overseeing developing and implementing the Academic Student Success Program to ensure a successful academic and social-emotional experience for high school students. Building partnerships with middle school and high school principals and grade level teams to improve grade level on-track rates; improve student course performance as reflected in their grade point average; and increase school with middle school and high school teachers to identify students who may benefit from participation in the program. Designing and delivering specialized curriculum to meet the academic social and emotional needs of and problem-solving issues affecting students academic performance by designing and implementing individual interventions to achieve student success. Communicating with teachers regularly regarding issues affecting students academic performance and problem-solving concerns to resolve in the registration process for students transitioning from the middle school to the high school and delivering academic and social-emotional support as needed. Serving as the in loco parentis advocate for students needing support. Overseeing the delivery of related curriculum through the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance and coordinating with other staff as students to use critical thinking skills and explore and test boundaries of traditional innovative methods to reach students at their instructional and social-emotional the use of retention programs and the status of referral services; coordinating follow-up services with students. Other Job Functions (Non-Essential):Performs other related work as Requirements Qualifications: Experience Required: Job-related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility. Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities; Skills to: Create opportunities for student success; utilize student course performance attendance and data to develop and implement interventions; consistently use discretion and judgment to evaluate sensitive situations and provide necessary instruction interventions and/or solutions; evaluate the effectiveness of interventions; effectively advocate for and support student needs; encourage critical thinking; utilize resources that support student success and programmatic needs; collaborate with others to explore academic recovery options for students; build lead and facilitate effective teams; participate in ongoing professional development; effectively mentor and coach students; effectively leverage technology to meet programmatic goals; organize and manage projects successfully; work collaboratively with others including students parents administration district and community members and stakeholders; maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive material. Knowledge of: Student development theory methodology and practice; effective instructional skills and strategies; student success and retention strategies; effective methods to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of at-risk student populations; school transition issues inhibiting student success; goal setting practices program development and management procedures; academic and counseling services; pertinent local state and federal regulations; germane resources policies and procedures; information technology including computer systems software and tech devices. Ability to: Use data to guide planning and evaluation; develop positive relationships with students and parents; effectively engage parents in their childs academic success and social and emotional well-being; provide instruction and deliver curriculum; effectively prioritize multiple tasks; recognition of and willingness to provide non-traditional supports; effectively organize and manage a student success program; bring projects to closure with minimal supervision; respond with flexibility to demands and requirements and adjust to ambiguous circumstances and change; create conditions that support overall student success; work in partnership with others to set program goals and develop and implement plans to improve student learning through a shared leadership framework; develop surveys and questionnaires; analyze and effectively utilize results; manage routines and procedures; demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness; be student-centered; attend staff professional and other meetings as needed. Significant physical abilities include: Stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and other sounds near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation/field of vision; carrying/pushing/pulling; lifting up to 20 pounds on occasion; sitting/walking and standing. Education Required: Bachelors Degree in Education or related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience. Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; valid drivers license and evidence of Qualifications:Masters degree in a related field (secondary education student counseling social work curriculum and instruction etc.)High school teaching with an early warning system
