Job Description

Job Title: CoordinatorofAdvanced Academics

Reports to: Executive Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education

Dept/Campus: Curriculum and Instruction

Pay Grade: Professional - PG 5

Wage Status: Exempt

Days: 240

Primary Purpose:

Provide leadership and direction for district programs in K-12 Gifted and Talented advanced academic programs and Credit by Exam administration. Support curriculum leadership and development and classroom instruction to ensure an aligned written taught and assessed with district staff and external professionals to analyze and enhance existing educational opportunities that meet the diverse needs of gifted learners and high achieving in coordinating district functions work collaboratively with both district and campus staff and contribute to the development of transformational systems that support the growth of the CSISD organization.

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Masters degree preferred

Principal or mid-management certification preferred

Campus Leadership experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation including how to write align and implement a sound curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Manages budget aligned with district processes and the vision and goals of the district
  • Ability to create supports based on stakeholder input for the gifted learners and high achieving learners.
  • Understanding of depth and complexity and Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) strategies and needed supports for administrators and educators

Experience:

  • Five or more years teaching experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Programs Management

  • Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the gifted and talented advanced academic and Credit by Exam instructional programs in K-12
  • Coordinate the review development and revision of all GT and related curriculum documents and materials including curriculum guides course outlines and teaching plans
  • Support content coordinators in the review development and revision of advanced academic courses and related curriculum documents and materials including curriculum guides course outlines and teaching plans
  • Oversee instructional strategies for GT and advanced academic courses and make recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for GT
  • Evaluate the curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for GT and advanced academics based on evaluative findings (including student achievement data) and recommend changes as needed
  • Maintain a resource library of publications supplementary materials and supplies relevant to GT and maintain an inventory of district resources
  • Provides instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instruction process
  • Uses digital technologies effectively to communicate and model technology use in learning
  • Participate in development preparation and administration of the budget for supplies equipment and facilities in GT advanced academics and Credit by Exam.
  • Acts as the district GT and advanced academics leader and facilitates GT and advanced academics district meetings and planning sessions. He/she ensures consistency and quality of GT and advanced academic instruction across the district.
  • Keep the GT and advanced academic information updated on the learning management system to ensure accurate communication with parents administrators and educators
  • Meets regularly with district personnel curriculum facilitators and principals to monitor and support GT and advanced academic program implementation
  • Manages GT Instructional Materials Allotment requests
  • Coordinates elementary enrichment summer programs

Student Growth and Development

  • Support campus administrators as instructional leaders in the design and implementation of campus plans to improve GT and advanced learner performance in K-12
  • Lead the development of instructional design that provides relevant experiences to engage learners and encourage risk taking flexibility and creativity

Staff Development

  • Design and deliver GT and advanced academic staff development for teachers administrators and staff in K-12 to promote effective instruction to ensure successful program implementation in the classroom
  • Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in regard to GT Advanced Placement and dual credit programs
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom

Other

  • Implement the credit-by-exam program to ensure students have opportunity for acceleration through testing
  • Convey information to parent and community members about GT and advanced academic programs
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Advanced Academic Coordinator Duties/Responsibilities

GT Curriculum Development:

  • Develop GT curriculum for full-inclusion program implementation
  • Lead and monitor differentiated lesson development for 7-12 grade core content instructional curriculum
  • Develop a system to track individual differentiated compliance of GT program implementation for HB3 compliance
  • Provide coaching and in class support to teachers by modeling GT differentiation activities
  • Continue the alignment of Elementary-Intermediate GT curriculum using the pull-out GT program guidelines

GT Professional Development:

  • Develop and lead GT professional development specifically to enhance the understanding of how to increase depth and complexity of learning
  • Lead 30 Hour Level I GT training (currently required of all CSISD teachers)
  • Monitor completion of Level I GT training for compliance reporting
  • Develop and implement a district wide common focused 6-hour yearly GT update to ensure state compliance guidelines

GT Program Compliance:

  • Monitor and share campus GT budgets
  • Monitor implementation of secondary GT differentiation activities
  • Lead monthly GT Specialists meetings for updates and reports
  • Lead annual GT Parent & Community Advisory Committee meetings
  • Conduct end of year program surveys and reviews
  • Review GT student data to determine program effectiveness
  • Set timelines for GT Testing and Identification
  • Assure GT PEIMS entry is accurate and completed by deadlines
  • Review district procedures and recommend updates to remain in compliance
  • Lead district level parent appeal process meetings
  • Attend Region 6 and TEA GT Coordinator meetings (monthly) to stay abreast of requirements and supports
  • Ensure alignment of GT experiences across the district

GT Other needs:

  • Coordinate District UIL competition
  • Disseminate and gather data from 7th-12th grade individual Student Interest Survey to help teachers better understand when and how to differentiate for each student

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide feedback regarding the performance of administrative assistant.
  • Provide feedback regarding the performance of GT Specialists to campus principals
