Job Description

The Pioneer Valley Regional School District is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to join our high-performing and collaborative leadership has achieved notable success in strengthening its financial operations in the past several years. Budget increases and town assessments have been moderate; collective bargaining agreements have provided excellent increases in compensation for staff; and the district was recently able to return $740K to its three district has been approved by the MSBA to enter into their feasibility study phase. The successful candidate for the Director of Finance and Operations role will work closely with the Superintendent the Director of Facilities and the School Committee to complete next steps in the MSBA have ambitious goals for ongoing improvements to our academic program including a renewed focus on outdoor environmental education. PVRSD has the largest campus (95 acres) of any public school district in the state and DESE has designated our secondary school with a Career Innovation Pathway in Environmental Science. In addition earlier this spring we published two Landscape Learning Plans about our elementary school campuses (Bernardston Elementary and Northfield is one School Committee for the district. Committee meetings are marked by an unusually high degree of professionalism respect and efficiency. School Committee meeting materials including monthly financial reports are easily accessible on the district district collaborates with a veteran public finance official who will serve as a mentor should the selected candidate need a higher level of support in their first years. The Search Committee will notify applicants on July 1 2025 if they have been selected for an interview. Interviews will take place on July 7 and 8 2025. Final interviews will take place in public during a School Committee meeting on July 17 2025.About our districtPVRSD is a small cohesive and forward-thinking district in beautiful Western Massachusetts. Nestled along the Connecticut River and bordering both Vermont and New Hampshire our district is at the literal crossroads of a tristate region rich with agricultural and cultural resources. The district is in an exciting period of rejuvenation with a focus on environmental education and exploration of a major building serves 580 students across three schools PreK-12 and has an annual budget of $17 million. In addition to students from our three member towns the district serves students from Vernon VT and Warwick MA through tuition agreements. Our three towns encompass pristine forested uplands classic New England hilltop and river valley farms and small town centers that exemplify the best of rural living.
