Highland Community College is seeking a skilled and motivated Communications Specialist to enhance institutional visibility and deliver timely accurate messaging to internal and external audiences. This part-time position works 28 hours per week. It is integral to supporting strategic goals through content development public relations and digital communications efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Write and edit news releases promotional publications and communications for departments across campus.
Photograph campus events and activities and manage photo archives.
Maintain and update content on the Colleges website and social media platforms.
Assist with scripting media packets and informational materials for public outreach.
Participate in public relations events and college promotions.
Contribute to emergency closure and crisis communication efforts in coordination with the Director of Marketing and Community Relations.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
What Were Looking For:
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in public relations communication marketing English or a related field.
Two years of relevant experience in writing marketing or public relations.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills and Knowledge:
Excellent writing editing and proofreading skills across a variety of formats.
Experience in public relations digital communication and media relations.
Photography skills including photo editing and archiving.
Familiarity with website content management and social media platforms.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments and with diverse groups.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Salary & Benefits:
Salary Range: $19.29 - $28.93 per hour
