Job Description

Interested candidates are required to complete the following on-line application to the attention of: The Recruitment Team. This temporary position is effective September 2 2025 and ending on or about June 26 2026.

In compliance with Board policies and procedures the Assistant Coordinator Mental Health supports the Mental Health Lead in meeting the boards commitments under the Mental Health and Addictions Strategy the Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-Being and The District Action Plan. The Assistant Coordinator Mental Health will support system stakeholders school administrators and staff students parents and community partners to fulfill the strategies goals.

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option. Please note this does not apply for school based positions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To maintain an active knowledge of the Mental Health and Well-Being needs of students in the Board and work collaboratively with the Mental Health Lead to plan and implement services to meet these needs in accordance with the Boards Mental Health and Addiction Strategy.
  • To work collaboratively with other professionals who are involved in the provision of Mental Health and Well-Being or general educational services to students within the Board (e.g. Social Work Psychology Student Success Teachers etc.).
  • To work collaboratively with other Student Services and other YRDSB departments to support system policy initiatives and priorities (e.g. DAP Well-Being Strategy Mental Health Strategy).
  • To work collaboratively with Board Staff involved in the provision of special education or general educational services to students within the Board (e.g. Social Work Psychology Student Success Teachers Inclusive Schools and Indigenous Education etc.).
  • To liaise and collaborate with all Board stakeholders and outside agencies/community services to support the implementation of the student mental health and well-being strategy.
  • To provide consultation to Social Work and Psychology staff members regarding the implementation of Board-wide mental health and addiction initiatives.
  • To support the Policy #663 implementation of partnership agreements and protocols related to mental health and well-being for schools in conjunction with the MHL the Chiefs of SW/Psych.
  • To track incoming partnership agreement requests through the partnerships database and ensure all agreements and protocols are up to date.
  • To contribute to the development of Mental Health related resources for schools and families including newsletters resource inserts tip sheets and Mental Health briefs.
  • To contribute to the development and review of Board policies and procedures specific to Mental Health and Well-Being as assigned by the Superintendent of Student Services the Principals of Student Services and the Mental Health Lead as well as support the interpretation of these policies/procedures to staff members.
  • To assist with the development coordination and delivery of various professional learning activities for teachers support staff parents and other Board personnel including Social Work and Attendance Services staff and Psychological Services.
  • To carry out other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Student Services the Principals of Student Services and Mental Health Lead.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Reports to the Mental Health Lead

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Masters degree in Social Work or Psychology is required or equivalent as approved by the Board.
  • A registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Psychologists of Ontario in good standing is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in social work or psychology.
  • Specialized knowledge of childrens mental health anti-oppressive practice evidence based and informed practices in school based mental health service delivery and The Education Act is required.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Drivers License and have access to own transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the job description for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.

LA.7.4 Those transferred to positions not covered by this Agreement will retain their seniority accumulated in the bargaining unit for a period of twelve (12) months or up to twenty-four (24) months by mutual agreement of the parties and if transferred back into the bargaining unit within the agreed upon period they shall be credited with all previously accumulated seniority within CUPE 1734 provided that no bargaining unit employee who has completed his/her probationary period shall be displaced as a result of such transfer. Parties may jointly agree to extend past the 24 months upon mutual agreement between the Board the Union and the Employee.

As a condition of employment an d in accordance with the Education Act anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.

We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers OCT and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
