Job Title: Career and Technical Education Assistant - Culinary Arts
Reports To: Career and Technical Education Director
Responsibilities:
- Assist the culinary instructors in teaching the Massachusetts Culinary Frameworks adapting to different learning styles and student backgrounds.
- Support the development of occupational skills and knowledge to help students become competent in the culinary field.
- Aid in the preparation instruction shop work and clean-up activities within the allotted class time.
- Maintain accurate records of student grades attendance and discipline.
- Demonstrate the use of occupational materials equipment and processes using standard models mock-ups sketches and other instructional aides.
- Guide students in selecting and performing appropriate activities to attain required competencies.
- Provide individual and group assistance tailored to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed.
- Mentor students on the importance of postsecondary education training and a strong work ethic.
- Collaborate with the CTE Director and Co-op coordinator to ensure students have work-based experiences including co-ops.
- Instruct students on appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment.
- Assist in controlling the storage maintenance and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
- Help establish and maintain standards of student conduct to provide an orderly safe and productive environment.
- Communicate with employers parents and school counselors regarding individual student progress.
- Assist in evaluating student performance knowledge and skills in the course and prepare progress reports.
Operational Support:
- Assist in the daily operation of the student-run restaurant ensuring smooth workflow and quality service.
- Make supply runs as needed to maintain adequate inventory for classroom and restaurant needs.
- Support the planning and execution of special events collaborating with culinary instructors and other staff.
Professional Development:
- This position could be a stepping stone towards becoming a licensed Chapter 74 Culinary Instructor for individuals with industry experience. We will assist in working towards licensure.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in the culinary arts field preferably in an educational or instructional setting.
- Current certification in food sanitation preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills.
- Experience in an urban setting preferred.
