About the Opportunity

The role of Academic Director for the Melbourne and Ultimo Study Centres is a unique and influential leadership opportunity within the University of Tasmanias international education portfolio. Based in Sydney this position plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic direction and operational excellence of two vibrant Study Centres delivered in partnership with the Education Centre of Australia (ECA). Its a role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on the student experience and academic outcomes for a diverse international student cohort.

As Academic Director you will be responsible for ensuring that the academic programs delivered at both centres meet the highest standards of quality and align with UTASs broader strategic goals. This is a role that requires both vision and pragmatismsomeone who can think strategically while also being deeply engaged with the day-to-day realities of academic delivery.

Whats Required

With regular travel to Melbourne and Tasmania this role is ideal for a collaborative and forward-thinking academic leader who is passionate about international education and committed to delivering a world-class student experience. You will bring to the role:

  • Proven academic leadership with a PhD and substantial experience in curriculum development quality assurance and learning and teaching within a university environment.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian higher education sector regulatory frameworks for international education and emerging trends shaping the global tertiary landscape.
  • Strategic mindset with strong decision-making capability able to navigate complex issues and drive outcomes through a collaborative and consultative approach.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement with the ability to build and sustain strategic partnerships across internal and external networks including senior leadership.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to build team capability and effectively influence negotiate and manage complex interpersonal and organisational dynamics.
  • Extensive experience working with international student cohorts with a strong commitment to enhancing the student experience in a culturally diverse environment.
