Fibre Optic Field Technician NV2 Cleared- Canberra
We are seeking an experienced Fibre Optic Field Technician with active NV2 clearance to support the ICN Stabilisation Program for DFAT. You will be responsible for installing testing fault-finding and certifying fibre optic cabling across international government sites. This is a hands-on autonomous role requiring a strong technical foundation attention to detail and global deployment readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and maintain structured and fibre optic cabling in accordance with standards and site-specific designs.
- Perform fibre splicing OTDR and power meter testing and end-to-end certification.
- Interpret and apply technical drawings and cabling schematics.
- Identify and resolve cabling faults using diagnostic tools and methods.
- Capture accurate job documentation and photographic evidence for handover.
- Liaise professionally with APS staff and overseas personnel.
- Manage time effectively across deployments and work autonomously.
- Assist Team Leaders and Project Managers in logistics and reporting.
- Maintain up-to-date licenses endorsements and WHS certifications.
- Adhere to APS Code of Conduct security practices and safety requirements.
- Be available for international travel including short-notice deployments.
Mandatory Requirements
- Cabling Licence (Open Registration) with current endorsements in:
- Structured Cabling (Cat 5 Cat 6 Beyond CPR Endorsement)
- Optical Fibre Cabling (CPR Endorsement)
- Coaxial Cabling
- NV2 security clearance (must be active)
- Eligibility for Official or Diplomatic Passport
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally for extended periods
- Canberra work location
- Onsite
