JOB TITLE: Communications Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Director of Advancement

START DATE: June 2025

FLSA STATUS: Part-time hourly employee (non-exempt)

ABOUT KENTUCKY OPERA

Kentucky Opera is a vital component of the cultural health of our region contributing to a compassionate open minded and vibrant community. We spark discovery joy and connection among varied and diverse communities throughout the Commonwealth with the shared experience of opera. Kentucky Opera will produce its 2025/26 Season in The Kentucky Opera Center for Cultural Health. Youth and Community programs are central to the companys mission and purpose.


SCOPE & PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Communications Manager will work as a key member of the Advancement team to develop and implement Kentucky Operas communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging to the companys subscribers single ticket buyers education and community engagement program participants vendors and to the community at large.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Marketing and Ticket Sales (85%)

  • Execute marketing and communication activities for all departments including direct mail campaigns ticketing for productions and events advertising special promotions print collateral and audience development campaigns in partnership with the Advancement team.
  • Manage Kentucky Operas website. This includes but is not limited to updating the company event calendar updating event pages and linking to digital media articles.
  • Support all advertising efforts and creation of collateral including communicating with advertising representatives manage copy coordinating design and submitting ads according to appropriate deadlines.
  • Lead efforts in the development and refinement of uniform graphic standards and visual brand strategies. Leverage patron insight data to refine brand management.
  • Manage and enhance Kentucky Operas brand in the public eye.
  • Ensure brand communications from each company department are consistent with the company style guide.
  • Coordinate content and develop content for information sharing among departments.
  • Provide design and direction for collateral web and other visual communications.
  • When applicable manage the pricing design and purchasing of brand items such as t-shirts and giveaways.
  • Secure photographer for all performances and selected events.
  • Conduct marketing research.
  • Manage the companys media archives

Public Relations (15%)

  • Collaborate with and support PR consultant on e-marketing social media efforts and press releases
  • With PR consultant maximize the use of emerging social media tactics mobile and analytics and other current and emerging marketing sales tools.
  • Ensure that social media messaging supports all print collateral.
  • Creating copy and photos seeking leadership approval and posting and monitoring correspondence.
  • Coordinating with all other external marketing partners.

  • Technologically savvy with computers applications databases tablets and smartphones
  • Is a creative thinker with strong logic skills
  • Possesses a close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at handling confidential information with excellent judgement and discretion
  • Possesses the ability to deal sensitively with a broad range of personality types
  • Has experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Has experience with WordPress and email distribution software or other website and digital communications tools
  • Asks great questions and seeks to contribute to the greater picture
  • Enjoys working as part of a team
  • Flexible creative self-motivated and willing to work extended hours on occasion
  • Has a keen interest in the arts and theatre

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work some nights and weekends.

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate $18-$20
