Tasks and Responsibilities:
Particular tasks and responsibilities include:
- Conducting detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements (bonding insurance etc.) and identifying any associated risk factors including the monitoring of published addendas that may alter the original scope of the project.
- Completing full quantity take-off of all labour equipment and materials required to complete the project as per contract specifications to ensure accuracy of pricing.
- Establishing a critical path schedule on the estimated milestone progress dates and completion timelines in order to meet the contract completion dates.
- Soliciting pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labour equipment and materials in order to ascertain the most competitive price.
- Completing final cost estimate of a project through the use of Bid2Win estimating software or excel templates incorporating all labour equipment and material data pricing documentation overhead and profit margins and producing a final tender submission for review and approval of Chief Estimator and Management.
- Preparing final tender documents for submission to client on behalf of Surespan in order to meet contract deadline submission requirements.
- Acting as a liaison with external consultants subcontractors and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements and coordinating tender development process on behalf of clients.
- Reviewing the project scope schedule budget and project execution plan and identifying any potential risks prior to the project starting and throughout its life cycle
Education and Experience Required:
Minimum two years of construction experience with a focus in estimating or project management. College diploma or university degree in engineering or construction management is beneficial but not mandatory. Preference will be given to those who have previous estimating experience with a general civil or heavy civil contractor with experience working in the natural resources (forestry mining oil & gas) or public infrastructure sectors.
Skills Required:
- Critical thinking ability
- Ideal candidate will have previous experience in civil estimating. Preferred tendering experience to be comprised of bridges (both new construction and rehabilitation) demolition pile driving roads earthworks drainage and concrete structures
- Solid understanding of specifications construction methods and procedures
- Experience with both coordination and estimating would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation including quantity take off procedures sub-trade procurement pricing and bid closing procedures
- Working proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook Project etc.) estimating software (Preferred knowledge of Bid2Win Software) and AutoCAD/On-Screen Takeoff or bluebeam
- Ability to establish a good working relationship with many different people including owners other managers designers and supervisors.
- Familiar with the creation of project schedules.
- Ability to multitask and coordinate priorities based on bid submissions
- Ability to work independently on several tasks or estimates simultaneously
- Communication skill is key both written and verbal to ensure there are no gaps in deliverables or responsibilities
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Location of Employment:
The Estimator will be located in Prince George British Columbia. It should be expected that some travel may be required. Applicants must hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License Passport and already be legally permitted to work in Canada.
