The Australian Refugee Association Inc. (ARA) is a community-based organisation providing settlement migration and other forms of assistance to refugees migrants and other people of concern.

Working collaboratively with ARAs Community Programs Team the Healthy Futures Project Coordinator will support the implementation and management of ARAs Healthy Futures Project delivered with funding support from Preventive Health SA and in partnership with Flinders University.
The Healthy Futures Project includes co-design implementation delivery and evaluation of evidence based preventive health related initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes of refugees and migrants. The project aims to improve health outcomes in refugee and migrant communities in areas such as:
- Obesity prevention
- Alcohol and other drugs
- Tobacco and vaping
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Suicide prevention
This position requires a proactive individual who is passionate about health promotion and community engagement. Applications from people with a CALD refugee or migrant background will be welcomed.
The Healthy Futures Project Coordinator will be responsible to support the delivery of ARAs Healthy Futures project:
- Using co-design principles and consultative practice develop and implement health education programs aligned to ARAs Preventive Health Plan that address the specific needs of refugee and migrant communities.
- Collaborating with healthcare providers community organisations and stakeholders to enhance service delivery and resources in accordance with the Preventive Health Plan.
- Collecting and analysing data related to health outcomes community needs and program effectiveness in accordance with the Project Evaluation Plan developed in consultation with Flinders University.
- Supporting ARA Bicultural Caseworkers to facilitate and co-facilitate workshops and information sessions for community members on topics such as nutrition mental health and preventive care.
- Subject to funding coordinate and lead ARAs auspicing of a Local Drug Action Team (LDAT).
- Preparing reports on project progress challenges encountered and recommendations for improvement.
- Promoting cultural sensitivity within health programs to ensure they are tailored effectively for diverse populations.
This is a part-time role 3 days per week offered on a fixed 2 year term through to June 2027 aligned to project funding.
Salary will be in accordance with the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHADS) level 4 plus generous salary packaging options due to ARAs status as a PBI (Public Benevolent Institution).
Qualifications:
- A relevant qualification in Community Services Community Health & Wellbeing Human Services and/or experience in delivery of preventive health initiatives.
Required skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in data collection and analysis with experience in using relevant software tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
- Knowledge of health promotion principles and practices particularly in relation to refugee and migrant populations.
- Knowledge of community engagement practices and co-design principles.
Required experience:
- A minimum of 2 years experience in project management or program coordination preferably within a health or community services context.
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities demonstrating cultural competency.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing community engagement initiatives.
- Experience in reporting on project outcomes and presenting findings to stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government policies related to health services for refugees and migrants is an advantage.
Special Conditions
- Must have evidence of Australian residency or right to work in Australia.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a current and valid Working With Children Check that shows you are able to work with children in South Australia.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a Child Safe Environment training certificate.
- Must be able to demonstrate good character through provision of a satisfactory Criminal History Check (Police Check).
- Must be willing to participate in training and development opportunities as part of continued professional development.
- Must hold a current drivers licence.
- Must own a roadworthy vehicle that is registered and has minimum third party property insurance and be able to use this for work purposes.
- Must be willing to work in various locations within the metropolitan area.
