Electrical Technologist

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited is currently seeking an Electrical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years experience to join our team of dedicated professionals in our Pickering office location.

Typical projects include preliminary design detailed design for reconstruction of municipal roads sewers water and wastewater management facilities and buildings and completion of environmental assessments for infrastructure improvements.

This opportunity will offer the successful candidate the chance to be an integral part of the design team working on a variety of multi-disciplined engineering projects. While this would be primarily a CAD role there would be an opportunity and desire for the candidate to expand their skills by assisting in the design and management of projects.

The Role

The position involves providing assistance to Professional Engineers and other technical staff on a variety of engineering projects and working on design tasks using AutoCAD and Civil 3D as well as other general office assignments.

More specifically the position will involve carrying out the following tasks:

• Develop and prepare engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts sketches engineering calculations specification sheets and other data in the areas of electrical power distribution building roadway and parking lot lighting fire alarm emergency power communications infrastructure security and automated controls associated with institutional and industrial buildings;
• Assisting with the preparation of electrical single line diagrams;
• Field/site visits; and
• Other duties as required.

Professional Knowledge & Qualifications

The following qualifications experience and skills are required:

• Accredited diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a diploma in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology;
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electrical design drafting;
• Knowledge of AutoCAD technology principles and applications; Revit or AutoCAD MEP would be considered an asset;
• Knowledge and proficiency in reading and preparing electrical deliverables (single line diagrams electrical layouts schematics and wiring diagrams panel schedules cable schedules etc.) for new and upgraded installations;
• Ability to prepare floor site and other architectural plans using AutoCAD drafting techniques;
• A good working knowledge of the current Electrical Safety Codes (CEC and OESC) and National and Ontario Building Codes;
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere;
• Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently
• A valid Ontario drivers license and vehicle.

The following experience and skills are considered assets:

• Experience with Visual/AGI 32/Autolux Lighting packages will set you apart from your peers.
