DescriptionThe Project Manager I - JSS Trials Delivery will play a key role in supporting the successful execution of Sea Trials (SATs) for the JSS Program. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager JSS1 this role is responsible for developing and implementing a structured approach to Sea Trials readiness including the establishment of readiness reviews tracking of vessel material state and coordination of all technical and regulatory requirements. The Project Manager I - JSS Trials will work closely with the Director test and Trials project engineering the technical authority and other key stakeholders to ensure authorization processes are clearly defined and executed. Additionally the role will oversee the development of daily trials schedules subcontractor coordination resourcing and integration with the master schedule while also ensuring lessons learned are captured to inform future programs.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
- Works with Sr Project Manager and JSS Delivery Director to develop process for Sea Trials readiness for the JSS Program.
- Develops management structure to monitor readiness for sea trials in the months leading up to the planned Sea Trials date.
- Plans for personnel onboard and personnel transfers while JSS vessels at Sea.
- Works with the Director Test and Trials to establish a schedule of SAT readiness reviews.
- Ensures accurate tracking of material state of JSS vessel ensure clarity in the JSS management team on mandatory Sea Trails Scope of work.
- Works with project engineering the technical authority to tailor the VSY business process for authorization of the ship to commence Sea Trials.
- Develops daily trials schedule and plans.
- Coordinates all subcontractors required to deliver the trials working with VSY Supply Chain team.
- Oversight of trials resourcing including VSY Subcontract and customer groups.
- Works with Technical authority to ensure regulatory requirements are planned managed and delivered as required.
- Provides project management support in the coordination and execution of assigned activities and deliverables. Works closely with cross-discipline shipyard teams including but not limited to estimating commercial planning and project controls engineering supply chain and operations to ensure the Project is successful.
- Ensures Sea Trials plans are maintained and reflected in the integrated master schedule (IMS).
- Works with Control Account Managers (CAMs) to review and estimate trials budgets.
- Ensures Sea Trails lessons learned captured for future Seaspan programs.
- Builds a plan and establish a shore side support team for JSS Sea Trials.
- Tracks actions and commitments identified during Project meetings. Establishes ambitious but achievable timeframes and works closely with action owners to complete open commitments.
What youll bring
- A bachelors degree in engineering or business. Diplomas may be accepted with sufficient employment experience.
- 5-8 years demonstrated experience in heavy industry such as shipbuilding manufacturing or construction.
- Certified project management qualification a distinct advantage (e.g. PMP).
- 3-4 years demonstrated experience working on complex projects. Solid ability to meet or exceed commitments in a fast paced diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience leading people and significant budgets.
- Experience working in planning and scheduling an asset.
- Detailed understanding of project management techniques and methods.
- Good judgment and prioritization abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A strong business sense.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to strategize and see the bigger picture whilst focusing on the details.

The estimated salary for this position is $112500 - $137500. In determining final salary Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidates skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Companys sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
