Primary Responsibility

Under the supervision of designated supervisor the Tutor II role provides academic support and guidance to students helping them understand course materials improve study skills and achieve their academic goals. This position provides personalized academic support to students in both individual and group settings. Fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel engaged and comfortable to ask questions and seek help. This role needs to be able to recognize and cater to diverse learners and preferences.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in the area of tutoring or in the subject area or closely related area plus one year related work experience; or an Associates Degree and three years related work experience or a High School Diploma/GED and five years related work experience or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

Experience in the field: Teaching/tutoring experience particularly in post-secondary courses preferred. Other relevant work experience that demonstrates either knowledge of the content or the ability to work with students or the ability to communicate ideas effectively.

Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Excellent interpersonal communication skills required. Basic computer literacy. Ability to interact with a diverse student population. Exhibit exceptional verbal written analytical and interpersonal skills. Maintain confidentiality discretion and professionalism. Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility teamwork and humor.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities preferred.

The hiring pay rate is $23.94 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution annual and sick time mental health resources and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidates skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed this will be set commensurate with the successful candidates qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

*This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMCs workweek. CMCs workweek is Saturday through Friday.

*This is a grant funded position and continued employment the position is contingent on continued grant funding.

Position anticipated to close on February 12 2025 or until filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties

  • Meet with the student or students in-person or online and provide personalized academic support.

  • Offer patience positive reinforcement and enthusiasm to students with diverse needs and backgrounds.

  • Use active listening strategies to allow students to determine content and pace of tutoring and encourage their active participation during the session.

  • Cooperate with and work under the supervision of staff faculty and other tutors. Communicate and seek assistance as needed.

  • Completes required training bi-weekly time sheets evaluation procedures and reports as requested.

  • Respect students rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding dispersal of information.

  • Mentor less experienced tutors and model effective tutoring strategies.

  • Possess high level knowledge in one subject area or multiple subject areas.

  • Interact with instructors and other materials and resources to support students as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

The position reports to a designated supervisor. Position usually works within the framework of responsibilities but may require guidance at times.

Supervisory Responsibility

Position has no supervisory responsibility.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.

Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting occasional walking standing and driving; occasional handling objects pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements; occasional lifting carrying pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oralcommunication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
