Under the direction of the Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer provide instruction on the prevention evaluation management treatment and rehabilitation of physical injuries to students and athletes engaged in various school sports and physical education activities; serve as a liaison between the students parents coaches and physicians in evaluation management care and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This is a short-term role to cover maternity leave.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fosters the department and school philosophy and mission statement of Polytechnic School;
  • Collaborates with other ATC to develop plans for providing athletic training coverage for all home athletic events (practices & games);
  • Provide both home and away game coverage for the football team;
  • Provide coverage for all home athletic events along with Head Athletic Trainer
  • Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training facility;
  • Maintain and carry out comprehensive venue-specific emergency action plans;
  • Establish a working relationship with team physician and community physicians;
  • Establish a working relationship with the school nurse;
  • Maintain adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures;
  • Assist with conducting concussion baseline testing for all student-athletes;
  • Educate coaches and team physicians about on-field injury and concussion protocols;
  • Travel to all away football games and possibly other venues if necessary. May be required to drive school vehicle for games (online training must be completed).
  • Engage robustly in fostering diversity equity and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment;
  • Willingness to take on other duties as needed.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines as well as a diverse array of contacts;
  • Work at a desk and computer;
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment;
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training Masters Degree preferred;
  • Must be BOC Certified (proof of certification & certification number required);
  • Certified in Basic Life Support CPR/AED (proof of certification required);
  • Knowledgeable of a large range of medical problems and is able to assess and evaluate while working with other healthcare professionals;
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regards the assessment treatment rehabilitation and return-to-play decisions per state guidelines
  • Detail-oriented and thorough with injury tracking and documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/high pressure situations when talking to student-athletes medical professionals staff and parents;
  • Ability to organize prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little to no supervision;
  • Drivers license insurance and ability to drive school van;
  • CPR certification (provided by Polytechnic School Athletic Department);
  • Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities
