Job Description

Evening shift - benefits eligible! (48 hours per two week pay period)

Under the direction of the Security leadership team and guidance of PBMU nursing leadership the Security Specialist is the primary responder for all safety concerns in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (PBMU) both individually and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

This individual interacts with patients experiencing behavioral or mental health crisis to decrease the emotional physical and mental stress levels of a situation using verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques and if necessary utilizing Crisis Prevention Institute physical techniques to bring the patient exhibiting aggressive behavior under control for further therapeutic clinical intervention.

They provide safety and security to patients healthcare workers and the unit by responding to situations to de-escalate crisis situations. Protects and maintains a secure environment by enforcing rules and regulations to provide for the safety of personnel patients visitors and the property. Protects staff patients and property by intervening with physical intervention if patient begins to act out and/or present danger to staff patients self or property.

This role is a key safety component in the security departments efforts to deter detect prevent respond and document concerns or incidents that risk the safety and well-being of patients families visitors workforce members and property by utilizing appropriate protocols emergency response procedures and/or non-violent crisis intervention methods. This individual will respond support mitigate de-escalate and document all security incidents or service requests on the unit. Individuals in this position are responsible for identifying documenting communicating and mitigating and de-escalating safety and risk issues that may impact the ability of PBMU to provide environmental safety and care to patients families and staff.

Individuals in this position respond to situations that include but are not limited to code response safety escorts belongings and room searches fire emergencies hazardous spills disaster response medical emergencies safety support missing child active shooter bomb threats individuals under distress or escalated unauthorized persons on Seattle Childrens property or buildings occupied by Seattle Childrens workforce members with intentions to commit crimes such as vandalism theft and assault.

Required Education/Experience: Associates degree in Criminal Justice or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of related experience in Security Services Public Safety Law Enforcement or related field; or a minimum of three (3) years aforementioned experience may offset the education.

Required Credentials: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire

- CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification within 90 days of hire (Annual Requirement)

- Completion of NCI Autism Training within 12 months of hire - Completion of Seattle Childrens Safe Firearms Training within 12 months of hire

- Completion of Seattle Childrens Security ED Screening Process within 12 months of hire

- Completion of Seattle Childrens Patient Watch Training modules within 12 months of hire - Safety Cares Certification within 90 days of hire if required for location (Annual Requirement)

- Completion of Car Seat Safety Training within 12 months of hire if required for position/role

- Score of 80% or above on Seattle Childrens Security Competency Exam in assigned area of the Security Department (Service Call Emergency Department Entrance Surge and Research) within 12 months.

Preferred:

- Prefer prior Security Service or related experience to be in a behavioral health/hospital environment

- Valid Washington State Drivers License with a driving record acceptable to Risk Management

- Completion of Wheelchair Vehicle Training

- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification

- Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Certification

Compensation Range

$25.85 - $38.78 per hour

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity skills experience and expertise and may vary within the range provided.
