Position Summary
JOB SUMMARY: The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention evaluation management and rehabilitation of injuries within the Colleges comprehensive sports medicine program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
Evaluation of athletic injuries.
Treatment of athletic injuries.
Providing counseling and education to student athletes.
Assist with the coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions.
Supervision education and recruitment of student and assistant athletic trainers. Recordkeeping and documentation.
Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must possess at least a bachelors degree from a CAATE accredited athletic training program.
Experience: Some medical experience preferred but not required
Certificate/License: Must be NATA BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring licensure from North Carolina.
Skills:
Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must know a lot about a huge range of medical problems. Diagnosing evaluating symptoms and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed.
Decision-Making Skills: Quick thinking by athletic trainers may be the difference between a small injury and a career-ending injury.
Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should take notes on how people are recovering and how to best keep them healing.
Interpersonal Skills: Athletic trainers work with people in stressful situations. Keeping a clear head and a calm demeanor when talking to people in pain other medical professionals coaches and families will be an asset.
