Job Title: Operations Center Pharmacy Technician
Reports to: Operations Center Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Sioux Falls SD (Remote work performed onsite from the Operations Center in addition to onsite work done at various Lewis Drug locations as assigned)
*This is a full time position. Main schedule will be Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm with occasional evenings required.
Summary
The Operations (Ops) Center Pharmacy Technician will act as a patient advocate by ensuring that patients follow their drug therapy plans as prescribed. This is done by assisting Lewis Drug pharmacists in duties of preparing prescriptions as defined within the scope of Lewis Drug policy and state and national regulations. Successful candidates must have proven commitment to providing exceptional customer service to our patients. Ideal candidates will be experienced in data entry calling insurance companies problem solving rejections and script audits. The ability to stay on task with minimal supervision and the drive to identify and resolve problems will create a successful employment opportunity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and efficient remote data entry for prescriptions across various Lewis Drug pharmacy locations
- Manage the processing and billing of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) orders particularly for patients with Medicare coverage
- Review Medicare Part B denials billing reports and information to ensure proper billing procedures are followed for billing
- Assist in the completion of pharmacy prescription audits initiated by third-party payers
- Answer incoming phone calls promptly professionally and politely representing Lewis Drug with excellent customer service
- Skillfully de-escalate potentially challenging patient or insurance-related conversations to achieve positive outcomes
- Address patient questions and concerns troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely and effective manner
- Support pharmacists by assisting with the completion of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) tasks or related medical billing within platforms such as Outcomes EQUIPP or DocStation
- Strictly maintain the confidentiality and security of patients private medical information in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Cross-trained to work in various Lewis pharmacy locations regularly and as needed
- Promote Lewis initiatives and represent Lewis in a positive manner to our patients and communities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Ops Center Supervisor to support the efficient operation of the Pharmacy Ops Center
Additional Requirements
- Proven experience in accurate and efficient data entry in the PioneerRX system
- Experience interacting with insurance companies to resolve billing or coverage issues
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve prescription rejections
- Experience with script audits or similar reconciliation processes
- Strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and stay focused on tasks
- Ability to identify and proactively resolve problems
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
- Familiarity with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) billing processes especially with Medicare
- Experience with Medicare Part B billing for services rendered by Lewis Drug
- Experience with MTM platforms such as Outcomes EQUIPP or DocStation
- Dependable in attendance and job performance
Education Experience and Licensure
- State of Iowa Requirements
- Register with the state Board of Pharmacy (BOP)
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be registered prior to the first day worked
- Become a nationally certified pharmacy technician within 1 year of BOP registration
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is recommended
- State of Minnesota Requirements
- Register with the state Board of Pharmacy (BOP)
- Must be 18 and have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be registered prior to the first day worked
- Must complete BOP approved Lewis training within 1 year of BOP registration
- State of South Dakota Requirements
- Register with the state Board of Pharmacy
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be registered within 30 days of employment
- Additional considerations that apply to all states:
- Successful completion of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician program to become certified is desired but not required
- Complete yearly CE requirements to maintain active license or as required per state
- Additional pharmacy technician credentials/endorsements encouraged but not required
Physical Requirements
- This role is based on site in the Lewis Drug Ops Center
- This role is primarily sedentary however other ordinary ambulatory skills needed in an office environment such as standing lifting bending and stooping may be required
- Ability to operate basic office equipment such as phones computers/keyboard copier etc.
Physical Requirements when working in a pharmacy setting
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move quickly from one workstation to another
- Work with full range of hands wrists and arms (i.e. Ability to pick up and pinch small items with fingers and seize hold grasp or turn objects with hands)
- Constantly positions self or moves about the pharmacy to access product and supplies from varying height levels
- Ability to lift/move items up to 50 lbs occasionally up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 10 lbs constantly
- Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction
- Must have depth perception color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) and field of vision
- Must have ability to communicate verbally with staff and patients
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced setting (filling scripts answering phones waiting on patients etc.)
