Job Summary
SummaryQualifications
1. Serve as a lead technologist of a service line
2. Log in samples and review submitted clinical data to allow appropriate pre-analytic triage of specimens
3. Perform assigned tissue culture and wet lab duties; troubleshoot workflows or equipment; assist with maintaining equipment supplies and reagent stocks
4. Demonstrate technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
a. Chromosome analysis: Initiate and maintain cell cultures using sterile technique; perform all aspects of specimen processing; operate automated cell scanner; analyze metaphases using brightfield microscopy record raw data prepare final karyograms and record current ISCN and/or
b. FISH analysis: Perform all aspects of specimen processing; analyze metaphases or interphase nuclei and record hybridization patterns; capture representative images at the fluorescence microscope workstation and/or
c. Microarray analysis: Perform all aspects of specimen preparation including DNA isolation and labeling hybridization washing and chip scanning; organize interpret and annotate genomic data.
5. Provide oversight of technical staff and laboratory workflows in the absence of Supervisor or the Technical Director
6. Perform chart review; provide daily case management and status updates to Supervisor and Technical Director
7. Oversee troubleshooting of assays or equipment; participate in validation of new assays and new equipment; responsible for periodic updates to relevant standard operating protocols
8. Teach rotating residents and fellows and train new employees when assigned
9. Participate in scheduled technical meetings and assigned CAP proficiency testing
10. Work with Supervisor or Technical Director to perform laboratory audits once every other year
11. Provide back-up weekend coverage and holiday coverage; maintain a professional appearance at all times and perform additional assigned duties
Experience
Experience working in a clinical Cytogenetics laboratory 8-10 years required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Productive work habits.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Proficient with computers (including use of Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel etc.).
- Organized detail-oriented and able to keep meticulous records.
- Respectful of patient confidentiality.
