Job Description

Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Life the Dean of Students ( DOS ) provides leadership and coordination for non-clinical intervention resources and support to students at all three campuses on a broad range of interpersonal issues affecting students retention and persistence at the University. The Dean of Students also serves as a leader in collaboration and partnership with campus and community stakeholders to develop policies protocols and procedures for the prevention and management of student crises concerning behaviors and behavioral intervention. The DOS contributes significantly to strategic planning budget management staff supervision and the development of a safe healthy inclusive learning environment that leads to retention graduation and successful career outcomes for Pacific students.

Essential Functions
Responsible for administrative and programmatic oversight and coordination of the Dean of Students office Student Care Services and Basic Needs/Food Pantry. Serves on the VPSLs Executive Management Group. Leads and participates in the Dean on Call rotation managing structure and protocols for response to after-hours emergencies and reports up to the VPSL . Supervises and trains new staff on Dean on Call policies including maintaining the Dean on Call handbook and providing on-going/annual trainings. Responds to emergencies and crises as needed including coordination of communication with appropriate campus community and family partners. Manages the Student Emergency Fund by tracking and responding to immediate needs and collaborates with Development on fundraising. Supervises and trains the Care Team in the delivery of care and support services to students experiencing crises or other life events that affect persistence and retention and demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competence in working with diverse students staff families and community member. Oversees the Basic Needs/Food Pantry operation providing resources to students. Partners with Development to increase available funding and establishes partnerships with community resources to support high need and on-going basic needs concerns. Advocates for the needs of students by collaborating with key campus partners such as Enrollment Management Registrars Office Financial aid and Academic Affairs in developing protocols that are student-centered and reflect University values and mission. Bridges the gap between individual students on- and off-campus services and internal processes and staff and tracks efforts and interventions to determine efficacy; makes recommendations for improvements to increase retention and service delivery. Acts as a resource and liaison to members of the University community on matters pertaining to student wellbeing and students of concern and presents information to the community in various formats including face to face print or virtual environments. Utilizes student University and other sources of data to disaggregate analyze and report intervention outcomes student concerns and trends and prepare annual assessment reports for internal and external stakeholders that inform Office of Dean of Students policy practices and procedures. Understand and follow FERPA HIPAA and other relevant laws and regulations and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality. Participates in trainings/meetings related to Behavior Intervention and Threat Assessment as needed. Provide consultation and advise students faculty staff and parents and families regarding services available to students. Ensure appropriate mechanisms and programs are in place to provide necessary and appropriate collaboration between Student Life leadership and Division staff members. Represent the University and Division in matters related to Student Life in a variety of forums including alumni parent and family groups community organizations and University committees including the Board of Regents as assigned. Partners with the Vice President for Diversity Equity & Inclusion (VP DEI ) and their designee to provide response to incidents of bias reported to the Bias Response Team ( BRT ). Serve as a committee member on University and Student Life committees as appointed. Represent the University and Division through leadership in national and regional organizations. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them. Minimum Qualifications
Masters Degree. Seven (7) years of progressive responsibility in Student Life counseling case management or crisis intervention Five (5) years experience supervising professional staff. One (1) year experience with Maxient and Ellucian Advise software.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate Degree. Ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in Student Life or relevant experience in a related department or discipline. Ability to supervise lead and motivate staff and ensure their on-going professional development. Excellent oral written and presentation skills; exceptional listening skills. Demonstrated qualities of self-motivation good judgment emotional maturity self-confidence fairness creativity and discretion.
