Job Description:

Supporting clients and PSCW staff in operating residential facility through: Clients admissions intake processing case triaging supportive case work referral and clerical duties. Provide clients with encouragement and access to wrap around support that ultimately lead to getting housed and staying housed. The work of this position seeks to prevent and eliminate homelessness while meeting the human needs of vulnerable populations in York Region.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Case Work/Facility

  • Maintaining ongoing support to PSCW staff who have the responsibility for primary client housing- stability planning and housing-related case work.
  • Manage contact with professional and agency support staff.
  • Summer Social Work Students are responsible for moderate cleaning and upkeep of facilities and resident quarters when property services staff are not on site.
  • Summer Social Work Students are responsible for adhering to all tasks and responsibilities as outlined on the Front-Line worker responsibilities shift sheets.
  • Perform other duties as required.

2. Reporting

  • Fulfilling and communicating all relevant Incident reports including IIR (Internal reports) to the team and CIR (critical reports) to supervisory staff.
  • Completing daily front-line worker responsibility logs and bed board charts.

3. Administration

  • Performing all relevant documentation related to Summer Social Work Student including but not limited to intake/discharge forms shift logs incident reports client forms client applications etc.
  • Staying up to date on all communications including management/supervisory emails meeting minutes training communications policy and procedures updates etc.
  • Fulfilling and communicating all relevant Incident reports including IIR (Internal reports) to the team and CIR (critical reports) to supervisory staff.
  • Completing daily front-line worker responsibility logs and bed board charts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Staff members work onsite at Belindas Place; approximately 95%. On occasion staff have responsibility to leave premises for work related tasks (housing-related case work support client meeting training supplies purchasing etc) accompanying staff - approx. 5%
  • Staff members work within the facility building and outside of the building onsite.

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • In the process of obtaining a college diploma or equivalent post-secondary formal study related to social and/or women related services work.
  • Valid Drivers License is an asset

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Experience working with homelessness mental health and addictions.
  • Must have functional knowledge and understanding of women issues related to homelessness mental health and addictions.

Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below):

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism anti-oppression and equity.
  • The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Word processing Desktop Publishing Spreadsheet/Graphing; Database computer skills are essential
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must have good interpersonal/time management skills
  • Good knowledge of community resources
  • Must exhibit strong empathy understanding and support for all people including difficult-to-serve individuals in our service sector.

In addition to the above candidates must qualify for Canada Summer Jobs program.

To be eligible youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of ageat the beginningof the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Actfor the duration of the employment**and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants.As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market the temporary nature of an international students time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa youth visa or work visa are ineligible.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.61 to $22.01 with a maximum of $26.41.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
