CLASSIFICATION: PSE

TITLE: Skilled Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

To help maintain the physical plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate with additional course work or training through a vocational school or community college apprenticeship program preferred. Two years experience in tasks.
  • Journeyman level skills required in one or more of the following areas: Carpentry painting plumbing electrical welding glass installation mechanical or other acceptable area. Have and maintain professional certifications.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain current first aid and CPR cards
  • Ability to lift heavy objects without bodily injury; a certificate of health may be required
  • Evidence of a good driving record
  • Demonstrated aptitude and competence in carrying out assigned responsibilities
  • Possess knowledge and demonstrate skill in the safe use and operation of maintenance department power tools and equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers students teachers and administrators
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions
  • Ability to problem solve and initiate solutions
  • Other qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • HVAC and/or refrigeration experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid First Aid/CPR card
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
  • I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)
  • Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects required to carry out job responsibilities.

Employees in this category are exposed to a range of environments and work requirements. Work areas range from weather exposed rooftops building interiors exterior work at ground level and on ladders and lifts. Work may be required in tunnels or other confined spaces. Noisy hot wet and dry environments are all encountered.

A full range of body movements are normally required including standing sitting kneeling crawling and walking. Push/pull motions and both gross and fine motor motions are common. Lifting and carrying are commonly required as is the ability to lift heavy objects.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Works in skilled maintenance trades as assigned by the supervisor to ensure District facilities are maintained in a safe and proper condition.
  2. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of District-owned tools equipment and supplies assigned to the maintenance worker.
  3. Performs skilled maintenance tasks related to carpentry painting taping plumbing steam-fitting mechanical or electrical work refrigeration maintenance machinist trades etc.
  4. Operates departmental hand and power tools and equipment in a safe manner to protect both self and equipment.
  5. Performs skilled maintenance repair and remodeling of District building facilities and equipment.
  6. Performs skilled maintenance and repair of electrical mechanical and structural systems of all District facilities.
  7. Fabricates equipment and materials in accordance with project requirements.
  8. Maintains a safe driving record particularly related to use of District vehicles in the performing of job duties.
  9. Assists in determining which repair jobs or maintenance requests are to be performed by District staff and which should be performed by outside contractors.
  10. Shares knowledge of proper methods of procedure and proper use of tools with other maintenance custodial and grounds personnel.
  11. Assists in the examination of all District facilities on a regular basis for purposes of developing preventative maintenance programs.
  12. Delivers supplies materials and equipment to schools as required.
  13. Cleans up work site when finished with any repair or new construction project.
  14. Maintains current knowledge of maintenance procedures and equipment through regular reading of trade and/or professional journals and attendance at workshops schools conferences etc.
  15. Performs all other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

The position is that of skilled maintenance worker and is represented by Public School Employees of Monroe collective bargaining unit. This is a twelve (12) month position unless otherwise noted on the position-opening announcement. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES

Performance shall be evaluated annually according to Board and administrative policies and procedures.
