Sony Pictures Televisions Nonfiction group is the feature documentary premium content and reality unit within Sony Pictures Television (SPT). THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join the Nonfiction Team. The Senior Accountant will work out of our Van Nuys office and report to the Corporate Controller. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for accounting and finance aspects for television and music. This includes period-end close financial reporting and analysis profit participation reporting to third parties budgets and reforecasts and ad-hoc reporting as required. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports. The selected candidate will be hard-working independent and a quick learner.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare divisional financial statements and supporting schedules monthly.
- Provide budget-to-actual and prior year-to-actual analysis with commentary.
- Create annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Liaise with staff and business partners to obtain any needed information.
- Liaise with TV production finance teams to ensure accuracy of data.
- Review and analyze third-party reporting including international distribution sales merchandising sales music royalties and touring activities. Follow up with providers to resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare journal entries.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts including resolution of discrepancies.
- Calculate third-party participation statements.
- Other duties / special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
- Public accounting experience preferred; CPA preferred
- 2-5 year of total accounting experience
- Prior entertainment industry experience a plus
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including analyzing and interpreting contracts
- Ability to work independently while also being an active team member
- Ability to liaise effectively and professionally with other functional areas within the organization and with external clients
- Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven assignments
- Ability to work efficiently and proactively with excellent attention to detail
- Strong Office and Excel skills (very comfortable with pivots complex formulas etc.)
- Experience using SAP accounting software a plus
