GIS Analyst - Technical Support 1


Career Level Summary
Technical Support 1 is an entry-level position with appropriate licenses/training certifications. Has basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines. Work is completed with close supervision.


Career Level Distinguishing Factors
This is an entry-level role. Technical Support 1 positions work under the guidance of others to perform work that is well-defined and often routine and repetitive in nature. Because employees are new to the role they require training and mentoring to successfully develop the foundational skills needed to complete their assigned job responsibilities. Delivering results in entry-level positions may involve tasks with shorter-term deadlines and a relatively limited scope. The focus is on learning basic skills and results are expected within a few weeks to a few months.
Employees in the Technical Support 1 level are typically hired with little to no prior work experience. Incumbents may move to the Technical Support 2 level relatively quickly after obtaining the training required to complete tasks at the intermediate level; however movement to the Technical Support 2 level is not guaranteed and depends on business needs and the responsibilities assigned.


Typical Responsibilities
This description is a general overview of the responsibilities expected from an entry-level Geospatial Technical Support position. The specific requirements may vary depending on the sector or department.

  • Work under the direction of senior technical support staff professionals and/or management to:

  • Develop a foundational understanding of the companys geospatial data and technology products to better assist in completing department tasks.

  • Expand technical knowledge by obtaining/maintaining appropriate certifications and learning industry and department best practices.

  • Participate in data acquisition and conversion tasks ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Contribute to basic maintenance tasks for geospatial databases; escalate complex problems to higher-level staff and/or management when necessary.

  • Assist in maintaining documentation for GIS datasets ensuring records are kept up-to-date.

  • Contribute to GIS-related projects and initiatives.

Typical RequirementsEducational
An associate degree or certification in a relevant field of study. A degree or certificate can generally be substituted with relevant work experience in addition to the guidelines listed below. Relevant fields include but are not limited to:

  • Applied Technology

  • Geography

  • Geospatial Science

  • Information Technology

  • Information Systems

Work Experience

  • No previous work experience required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of geospatial technology concepts and principles.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to adhering to established procedures.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to learn from supervisors and mentors.

  • Willingness to seek training and development opportunities to advance in the field.

  • Desire to build a career in geospatial technology and grow within the organization.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and support processes.

Travel

  • Travel is typically not required for Geospatial Technical Support positions. Work with your PX Partner if regular travel is required as part of normal job requirements.

Schedule

  • Dependent on business needs. Work with your PX Partner to determine if schedule requirements need to be included in a job description to meet workforce and resource planning requirements.

Management Responsibilities
The Technical Support 1 level is an individual contributor position and does not supervise other employees.
