Our work is very centrally focused on investment underwriting: understanding the risks our borrowers face and the quality of their management teams in addressing those risks evaluating credit strength and assigning credit ratings and making relative value recommendations incorporating both risk and return to find best value for our portfolio. We offer a corporate lending experience that is integrated across both public and private debt markets in an unusually highly sophisticated portfolio that includes approximately 1500 borrowers.
The Corporate Finance group is structured into six industry teams consisting of:
Power & Infrastructure Renewable and conventional power project finance global public private partnership finance utility lending and essential infrastructure focused in the United Staes Canada Australia East Asia and Europe
Natural Resources Oil & gas chemicals and metals & mining
Financial Institutions Banks insurance companies REITS higher education and structured finance
ICED-T Industrial Consumer Entertainment Defense Transportation. Team covers about 75% of the S&P 500 also picks up retail media aerospace pharma & healthcare technology & telecom
Public Sector Provincial/state municipal sovereign education public health public agencies and multilateral agency lending programs
Analysts will spend a majority of their time performing investment analysis and underwriting in addition to supporting transaction execution. In addition to working closely with senior team members to evaluate investments with individual borrowers she/he will gain exposure to senior leaders across our industry teams through weekly all-hands meetings monthly analyst presentations and transaction approval meetings. Analysts applying for this role should have some experience with the power sector.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting other team members including directors and managing directors in evaluating and analyzing new investment opportunities and existing portfolio holdings for their risks and projected returns.
Analyzing preparing and presenting investment memos for new investments;
Making recommendations consistent with Manulifes investment guidelines;
Defending investments during credit committee presentations and team discussions;
Ensuring and monitoring investments to meet internal ESG guidelines;
Includes ensuring compliance with AML/ATF procedures prior funding and ensuring proper senior staff sign off.
Writing periodic investment reviews of the performance of portfolio companies including qualitative company assessment and quantitative financial analysis and modeling.
Includes monitoring annual review timeliness for a sub-set of the portfolio reviewing quarterly reporting and compliance assessing companys overall performance within projections and working with senior staff on making a recommendation based on this information.
Special projects that tend to be broader analyses of industry trends performance of the portfolio or modeling of performance under various macroeconomic conditions.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in business accounting economics or liberal arts discipline required
Solid conceptual understanding of business/economics and the capacity to develop strong financial analysis skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively communicate qualitative concepts and supporting quantitative data and metrics with internal and external stakeholders
Strong quantitative and analytical skills
Adept at using computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite
Skill and comfort with financial statement analysis and valuation
Attention to detail is a crucial success factor in this position

Salary range is expected to be between
$76000.00 USD - $127000.00 USDIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location please contact for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge skills qualifications experience and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
