Actuarial Engineer

Position

WCF Insurance finance department has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as an Actuarial Engineer reporting to the Chief Actuary. This is a full-time exempt position that works in WCFs Sandy Utah office (NOT REMOTE).

The person in this position is responsible for supporting actuarial and advanced analytics initiatives by collaborating with actuaries and data scientists to build scalable reliable and maintainable analytical solutions which enables robust modeling insight discovery and business decision making.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with actuaries data scientists system developers and other stakeholders to understand data needs gather business and technical requirements and deliver efficient data and technology solutions.
• Maintain technical standards for actuarial project infrastructure including Git repository structures containerization practices Python dependency management and server deployment protocols.
• Work with DevOps engineers on adherence to IT governance for production migrations of analytic deliverables.
• Research evaluate and pilot emerging technologies that enhance actuarial and data science capabilities including AI/ML tools for feature engineering automated model validation and process optimization.
• Build support document and maintain scalable data pipelines from source systems to actuarial models and from models to business audiences implementing CI/CD practices and version control.
• Design and develop new data features within actuarial databases to support actuarial analysis competitive intelligence predictive modeling and other advanced analytics workflows.

Qualifications

The most qualified candidate will have:

• Bachelors degree in computer science data engineering software engineering or related technical field; OR minimum of five years of relevant experience in data engineering analytics infrastructure or technical roles within insurance or financial services.
• Expert-level proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts; extensive experience with data engineering tools and modern data stack technologies; ability to build complex queries and procedures optimize database performance and design scalable data architectures.
• Solid understanding of analytical lifecycle management and the types of data used in actuarial modeling (e.g. policyholder data claims data).
• Strong programming skills in Python and other scripting languages with experience in data science libraries workflow orchestration and integrating actuarial model inputs and outputs.
• Demonstrated experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) including version control CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies.
• Experience with cloud and open-source technologies supporting modern analytics infrastructure.
