This role is open to candidates based within a commutable distance (generally within 23 hours) of one of our office hubs in Lisbon. We embrace flexibility in where and how work gets done and also value meaningful in-person moments to connect and collaborate. You can expect a remote-first working model with periodic in-person gatherings at your closest office for team connection planning or other key moments.

What you will do

Viators Engineering Platform Team is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong background in both software and systems engineering. As a key member of our core platform team you will play a crucial role in empowering our developers with the tools and processes they need to achieve maximum productivity and deliver exceptional business value.

You will be a champion of DevOps practices fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. By working closely with product teams you will co-design platform solutions that directly enhance developer productivity and drive business value.

What you will need

• 5 years of experience as a systems infrastructure platform engineer or in a similar role
• Experience leading infrastructure projects end-to-end mentoring other engineers or defining standards across teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills capable of collaborating across engineering teams and confidently evangelising solutions
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) in a production environment deploying managing and troubleshooting workloads
• Strong Experience with AWS services and architecture patterns (e.g. EC2 EKS S3 VPC IAM RDS etc.)
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools especially Terraform for provisioning cloud infrastructure
• Experience with Helm for packaging and managing Kubernetes applications
• Comfortable working with GitOps workflows especially using tools like Argo CD for continuous delivery
• Solid Linux systems knowledge performance tuning troubleshooting security best practices
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and integration with infrastructure (e.g. GitLab CI GitHub Actions or similar)
• A mindset for automating everything youve seen the benefits of reproducibility scaling and drift detection
• Experience working withmonitoring/logging tools (e.g. Prometheus Grafana Loki Datadog) or secrets management (e.g. HashiCorp Vault AWS Secrets Manager)
• Ability to lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and incident review processes contributing to blameless postmortems and continuous improvement initiatives
