Temporary Assistant Professor Linguistics & Cognitive Science College of Arts and Sciences
The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware invites applications for two Temporary Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Linguistics & Cognitive Science. The appointment is expected to begin on August 16 2025 and will run until August 31 2026 with the possibility of renewal for up to a maximum of three years.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach advise and mentor undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Cognitive Science and/or Linguistics with some possibilities for graduate level teaching and mentoring. Some service may also be required. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Linguistics Cognitive Science or a related field. They will also demonstrate teaching excellence and a strong commitment to teaching and advising. The candidate is expected to teach a minimum of three courses per semester from the following list: Introduction to Cognitive Science; Introduction to Linguistics; Language Mind Society; Science of Language; Topics in Cognitive Science; Psycholinguistics; Neurolinguistics; Structure of English; Second Language Acquisition & Bilingualism. Teaching breadth is desired although the candidate is not expected to have expertise in all of these areas.
THE DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND COGNITIVE SCIENCE AT UD: The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware () is within the College of Arts and Sciences. The department runs a Ph.D. program in Linguistics a Masters degree in Linguistics and Cognitive Science a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics. Our largest undergraduate population is in the Cognitive Science major which houses a concentration in Speech Language Pathology. The department is committed to a climate of mutual respect among all individuals. Faculty in the department have opportunities for teaching growth and development at the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning ( College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction research and public engagement. With 24 academic departments and more than 25 centers programs and institutes the College serves close to 7000 undergraduate students and over 1000 graduate students with CAS majors but also every single University student through foundational course work. The Colleges 600 faculty members emphasize the enduring value of an arts and science education and share a deep commitment to excellence in scholarship and all forms of creative and intellectual expression. The College has departments in the arts humanities social sciences and natural sciences and features outstanding research and teaching facilities. Faculty and staff encourage and support innovative interdisciplinary collaborations and students engage local national and global audiences through research and creative activity. With annual research expenditures of approximately $38 million and growing the College currently houses several large interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and NSF.
