McNeese State University invites applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Department of Psychology and Counseling/College of Nursing and Health Professions.


Our faculty seeks enthusiastic counselor educators who share our commitment towards initial CACREP accreditation in our masters program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This is a full-time 9-month unclassified tenure track position contingent on completion of terminal degree. The on-campus appointment begins August 2025.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

The Assistant Professor of Counseling will be a key faculty member in a 10-member Department of Psychology and Counseling responsible for contributing to our departments mission through excellence in teaching clinical supervision scholarship and service. This position requires a strong commitment to the development of future Licensed Professional Counselors experience with evidence-based pedagogy and active engagement in both university clinical and community initiatives. This is a full-time tenure-track position.


Primary Responsibilities:


Teaching & Pedagogy:

Deliver high-quality instruction in graduate-level clinical mental health counseling courses with a focus on student-centered inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices. Faculty are expected to maintain regular on-campus office hours provide timely and constructive feedback and engage in continuous improvement of their teaching through professional development.


Clinical Supervision:

Provide direct supervision to students enrolled in practicum and internship coursework at McNeese ensuring alignment with CACREP standards and ethical guidelines. This includes conducting individual and group supervision sessions evaluating student performance and collaborating with site supervisors and other departmental personnel to support student growth and professional identity development.


Advising & Mentorship:

Serve as an academic advisor within the Department of Psychology and Counseling.


Scholarship & Research:

Engage in scholarly activities that contribute to the discipline of counseling including research presentations and publications. Opportunities for collaborative research with faculty and students are encouraged and supported through departmental resources and additional intra- and extra-mural funding opportunities.


Service:

Participate actively in departmental college and university committees as well as community outreach and service initiatives that align with the mission of the department and institution.
