Job Description

Summary

The Facilities Technician supports the mission of The Museum of Flight by providing regular facility maintenance and repairs throughout the campus and is charged with keeping the Museum clean and in good repair. Areas of responsibility include private and public areas such as restrooms event areas storage areas and office spaces. This position performs cleaning and trash removal of exterior spaces and provides support for Museum events special projects and facilities related maintenance. Events support will include the setup and breakdown of non-permanent fixtures such as tables and chairs while providing good communication for logistics with internal stakeholders. Additionally this position supports South Loading Dock activities; receiving logging delivery of incoming shipments and upkeep of other loading dock areas.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Keep outside public areas (parking lots sidewalks trash and recycle containers smoker urns etc.) clean and neat at all times.
  2. Provide basic repair and maintenance of Museum buildings related equipment and systems including but not limited to light electrical plumbing door operators furniture systems painting and building materials as assigned.
  3. Provide support for private and Museum sponsored events including setup and breakdown.
  4. Respond to facility maintenance task requests in a timely cost-effective manner and complete all required communications throughout the project using our Museum task management system.
  5. Monitor and appropriately respond to department email in a timely manner.
  6. As assigned work on long- and short-term facilities projects.
  7. Replace light bulbs as needed and directed.
  8. Assist with routine checks and basic maintenance to Museum vehicles as assigned.
  9. Pickup building related supplies materials hardware and necessary tools when applicable.
  10. Assist with the distribution of packages and supplies to departments as needed.
  11. Participate in organizing controlling cleaning and maintaining loading docks maintenance office spaces and related work and public areas on a regular basis.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Associates degree in a related field a plus.
  • Two (2) years of previous work experience within Facilities Maintenance.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of basic repair and maintenance of commercial buildings and systems including some electrical plumbing door operators furniture systems painting and building materials.
  • Knowledge of various chemicals and materials used in facility maintenance including but not limited to cleaners lubricants sealers paints patching compounds paving and construction materials.
  • Knowledge of safety and security practices procedures and regulations concerning the proper use of equipment and materials including knowledge of OSHA and WISHA requirements.

Abilities

  • Proven ability to problem solve; identify analyze and correct issues in a timely manner.
  • Deadline oriented including the ability to prioritize and accurate complete competing tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to work well independently in a team environment and with a diverse population of internal and external customers.

License & Certification

  • Current WA drivers license required with an acceptable driving record.
  • Able to fulfill certification in the operation of facilities equipment that include but are not limited to forklifts man lifts and various motor vehicles.

  • Schedule is assigned by the manager with flexibility required for some weekends holidays and evenings based on Museum needs.
  • Some local travel may be expected for this position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Onsite attendance is essential to perform some of the duties of this position.
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds both assisted and unassisted.
  • This position requires repetitive wrist and arm movement grabbing reaching pulling overhead activities working from ladders and working outside in inclement weather are all integral parts of the job.
  • Requires the ability to operate various motorized and non-motorized vehicles and lifting equipment.
  • Exposure to objects and chemicals such as cleaning agents which require strict adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Occasionally work from elevated areas such as aerial catwalks on lifts and roof tops.
  • Able to stand on ones feet for the duration of the shift.

Paid-Time Off

Our paid time-off plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick leave and 2 weeks of vacation (80 hours each) per year 10 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is$25.00to$34.00 depending on experience.

Should you receive an offer please expect that it can fall anywhere within this range. A multitude of factors will determine a fair salary based on the following: scope of role within the organization years of relevant experience specific skills and evaluation of capability to execute in role successfully (among other critical factors).
