Overview
The Pharmacy Technician - Outpatient plays a critical role in the healthcare team providing essential support to pharmacists and enhancing patient care in outpatient settings. This position requires a blend of technical skills strong communication abilities and exceptional attention to detail. Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for accurately dispensing medications managing inventory and interacting with patients to provide education about their prescriptions. Their contributions are vital for ensuring medication safety and effectiveness thereby impacting patient outcomes. Technicians also assist in maintaining a smooth workflow in the pharmacy enable efficient service delivery and ensure compliance with health regulations. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications.
  • Ensure accurate medication preparation and labeling.
  • Manage inventory levels and perform stock management.
  • Operate pharmacy software for filling orders and managing records.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Answer phones and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Process prescription orders and verify information for accuracy.
  • Educate patients on medication usage and potential side effects.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations in medication handling.
  • Assist in the training of new staff and interns.
  • Monitor and report any discrepancies in medication supplies.
  • Participate in continuous education to stay updated on pharmacy practices.
  • Support pharmacists in medication reconciliation efforts.
  • Help in managing controlled substances and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Certification from a recognized pharmacy technician exam (e.g. PTCB or NHA).
  • State-specific pharmacy technician license if required.
  • Experience in a pharmacy or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacology and medication therapy.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management software and technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Capability to follow detailed instructions and protocols.
  • Flexibility in working hours including weekends and holidays.
  • A commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Ability to lift moderate weights and stand for long periods.
