Position: Early Expressions Intern

Reports to: Senior Manager of Learning & Outreach
Team: Learning & Outreach
Status/Employment: Internship roughly August 1 2025 to April 30 2026
Hours:Position requires 6-20 hours per week between the dates listed above
Compensation: A stipend of $8000 to be paid out in two installments (December 2025 and April 2026). Compensation is dependent on the fulfillment of the requirements of the internship.

SUMMARY
The role of the Early Expressions Intern will be to work with the Senior Manager of Learning & Outreach to assist with the development implementation and coordination of artmaking experiences for the Early Expressions program. The Intern will also assist with the administrative record-keeping required by grants supporting Early Expressions.

The Taft Museum of Art (TMA) provides meaningful experiences by connecting people with great art both in a historic setting and in the community. Through its intimate presentation of Anna Sinton and Charles Phelps Tafts treasures and its engaging exhibitions programs and activities the Museum creates enjoyment and learning opportunities for all. The TMA provides free school visits that include artmaking activities to reinforce gallery learning. Additionally eligible preschools can participate in Early Expressions. Early Expressions is a multipart arts integration program designed to help young learners (age 4) identify and express their feelings through creative expression and unique experiences with original works of art in a museum setting and the classroom.

Centered around core Social and Emotional Learning curricula this program uses arts engagement to help students recognize emotions and provides them with tools and strategies in the form of art making to express their own emotions in a constructive and meaningful way.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Learning & Outreach the Intern helps the Taft Museum of Art in delivering its mission of providing meaningful experiences by connecting people with great art in a historic setting and the community by assisting with the implementation of the Early Expressions program.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently pursuing or have earned a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in art education fine arts museum education art history or related field
  • Experience working with or teaching preschool aged children.

  • Other: Valid drivers license reliable transportation be able to climb stairs and to stand for up to three hours at a time.
