Job Summary: Services established departmental goals and objectives performs administrative duties such as strategic planning hiring new employees and conducting the appropriate performance evaluations; maintaining and reporting departmental statistics; implements the Social Services quality assurance program; and develops the departmental budget.

- Plans and directs the delivery of medical social services to patients and families through individual group or family intervention.
- Identifies those in need of services. Performs a clinical assessment and implements a treatment plan in an interdisciplinary team framework.
- Works with individuals and families in the Pediatric unit the Level III NICU the Newborn Nursery the Post-partum/Gyn unit the Labor & Delivery unit and in the outpatient area.
- Helps identify staff needs and presents relevant educational in-services as well as participating in hospital-wide educational endeavors.
- Presents workshops or seminars in the community and represent the hospital on community-based committees.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Practice and Care Management
- Collaborates with the CEO Medical Staff and Department Directors to provide acceptable social work practices in relation to the hospitals Social Services programs.
- Analyzes statistical data and narrative reports to identify and to facilitate program development.
- Demonstrates ability to function as leader of process (L&D NICU).
- Prioritizes departmental workload according to patient needs and professional social work practice.
- Consults with physicians nursing service and pertinent ancillary medical personnel regarding clarification of diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Provides direct social services to patients and their families through intensive counseling/crisis intervention.
- Provides for a formal system of referral that attempts to facilitate the early and accurate identification of patients experiencing psychosocial problems.
- Formulates social service treatment plans that address patients psychosocial needs.
- Provides for the discharge needs of patients (home health care long-term care home environment evaluation medical supplies and equipment appropriate community referrals and follow up services).
- Maintains accurate patient records.
- Reports cases of suspected or documented child/adult abuse/neglect.
- Acts as hospital representative for all adoptions ensuring all legal requirements are met coordinating adoptive process during hospital stay and ensuring confidentiality.
- Ensures the provision of community social services by participating on appropriate community health and social service committees.
- Advises hospital staff of changes in community resources that impact care as well as new services available.
- Identifies gaps in community resources and collaborates for improvements or program development.
- May provide outpatient counseling and assessment services to individuals and/or families as social service patient load permits.
- Provides informal therapeutic support to employees upon their request or if time does not permit provide referrals to Womens & Childrens Hospitals EAP program or to local mental health providers.
- Participates in Nursing Orientation and presents needed hospital-wide in-services on social service issues.
- Performs special tasks as requested by the Administrative Team at Womens & Childrens Hospital.
Qualifications- A minimum of one years social work experience post masters degree required.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Social Work holding a Master of Social Work degree
- Board Certified Social Worker (BCSW) required
