Job Description

Title: State Support Team 9 Regional Mathematics Specialist

Supervisor: Director/Associate Director of SST9

Summary/Objective: Responsible for supporting regional LEAs (Holmes Stark and Wayne counties) in accordance with the grant agreement with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Position Qualifications:

  • Must hold an Ohio teaching license.
  • A masters degree in mathematics mathematics education or a related field (curriculum administrationetc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in improving student learning through research- and evidence-based instructional strategies for mathematics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Ohios Plan for K-12 Mathematics Ohio Learning Standards for Mathematics Standards for Mathematical Practice and Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices
  • Experience delivering mathematics instruction within a Universal Design for Learning educational framework
  • Understanding of differentiation of instruction through the use of high-quality instructional materials
  • A minimum of three to five years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics instruction across K-12 grade levels
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering professional learning and technical assistance designed to improve instructional practices for educators
  • Strong coaching and consulting skills to support teachers in implementing the Standards for Mathematical Practice and Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices
  • Ability to analyze and apply student performance data including data for student groups including but not limited to students with disabilities to enhance instruction and curriculum alignment.
  • Experience working with administrators to implement systematic improvements in mathematics education particularly for students in lower-performing student groups
  • An understanding of integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports (IMTSS) including Tier 1 core instruction and Tier 2 & 3 interventions with data-based individualization.

Additional Requirements:

  • Hold or complete a current Ohio BCI and Federal Background check free of disqualifying infractions
  • Comply with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  • Participate (and pass where applicable) in all required training including but not limited to: Bloodborne Pathogens Crisis Intervention Educator Ethics etc.
  • Embody high ethical standards integrity and accept responsibility for decisions and conduct
  • Efficiently operate Google Applications including Gmail Drive Sheets Docs etc.
  • Adhere to the Stark County Educational Service Center (SCESC) Governing Board policies/administrative guidelines/staff handbook policies of the assigned district/worksite and the to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Educators
  • Promote the proper use care and security of SCESC property and report misconduct vandalism equipment malfunctions and other concerns
  • Advance the professional image of the SCESC and affiliate districts
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers and colleagues promoting a cohesive work environment
  • Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to supervisor and/or civil authorities as required by law
  • Maintain confidentiality of student related information
  • Such alternatives or additions to the above as deemed appropriate by the ESC superintendent and/or the ODEW

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate implementation of the scope of the work as outlined in the Grant Agreement for Ohios State Support Teams with supervision of the SST9 Associate Director
  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with regional affiliated districts and community partners including schools in Holmes Stark and Wayne Counties
  • Assist with planning development and implementation of grant programs
  • Attend state regional and local meetings conferences and trainings
  • Assist with the implementation of Stark County Board of Education policies and administrative regulations; and compliance requirements of State/Federal regulations
  • Perform other specific duties as assigned.

  • Report misconduct or violations of policy and procedures to the direct supervisor appropriate administrator or legal authority (mandating reporting)

Job performance is evaluated according to the policy and procedures adopted by the Stark County Educational Service Center Governing Board.
