Job Description

Electrical/Controls Maintenance Technician

Location: Lake Odessa MI
Shift: 2nd Shift Type: Full-Time Seniority: Mid-Senior Level

Position Overview

A well-established organization in the manufacturing and production sector is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to support operations on 2nd shift. This is a hands-on critical maintenance role for professionals with strong mechanical electrical and troubleshooting skills especially those experienced in fast-paced food production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical issues without direct supervision
  • Operate and maintain standard tools including power tools hand tools and electrical testing equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair analog and digital control devices 480 VAC 3-phase motor controls and low-voltage systems (120 VAC / 24 VDC)
  • Use tools such as oscilloscopes VOMs and 4-20 mA calibration units for diagnostics
  • Apply PLC and ladder logic knowledge preferably with Allen-Bradley systems
  • Perform preventive and annual maintenance (PMs) to reduce downtime
  • Read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics blueprints P&IDs and wiring diagrams

Systems & Process Reliability

  • Maintain process equipment per industry standards
  • Assist in implementation of preventive maintenance procedures for electronically controlled equipment and plant instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot issues with plant data collection systems and serial communication devices (e.g. bar-code readers digital displays terminals wireless networks)
  • Participate in corrective and planned maintenance; report issues in detailed work orders

Daily Operations

  • Independently prioritize daily workload
  • Acquire necessary tools materials and documentation for planned or reactive work
  • Prepare and secure the worksite with all safety measures (scaffolding tags notifications etc.)
  • Communicate via written daily pass-downs including issue summaries and actions taken
  • Return unused tools and materials and complete functional validation testing as required

Safety & Environment

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) certification
  • Report and correct unsafe conditions
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives; support a strong personal safety culture
  • Be willing to join Hazmat response team if required

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Electrical or Maintenance Journeyman License Michigan (REQUIRED)
  • 3 years manufacturing maintenance experience
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Proven troubleshooting skills (both electrical and mechanical)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and schematics
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting especially ladder logic
  • Ability to work off-shift and weekends when needed
  • Strong written communication for documenting work activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in a food processing environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs and systems
  • Proficiency with test and calibration equipment (RTD calibrators digital multimeters etc.)
  • Working knowledge of SAP/PPE systems or similar enterprise tools
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance strategies in industrial environments

Additional Notes

  • A weekly attendance bonus program is offered
  • Candidates must be self-starters detail-oriented and capable of working with minimal supervision
  • No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance is provided

Important:
This role requires a valid Electrical/Maintenance Journeyman License issued in the State of Michigan.
Experience with Allen-Bradley programming and diagnostics is a strong asset.
Candidates without the required license or hands-on PLC troubleshooting skills will not be considered.
