Job Duties
The Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Data Engineer. The purpose of the position is to document design build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to fulfill OSIGs data needs from internal and external data sources. The duties and responsibilities of this position include: Implementing RESTful APIs and web services to meet ongoing and future data requirements; Evaluating OSIGs current data ecosystem and recommend and execute changes to enhance governance maturity and usability; Collaborating closely with the other staff of OSIGs Information Technology Services Division to support the development and implementation of OSIGs Data Strategy and addressing OSIGs Data Engineer data needs; Working alongside OSIGs Information Technology Services unit staff to ensure pipelines meet requirements and collaborates with OSIGs other divisions to understand their various data challenges and needs; Displaying diplomacy professionalism and tact when engaging with senior-level leaders and managers on challenging topics to provide summaries conclusions data analysis and recommendations; Offering expert advice on component projects such as audits or investigations incorporating sophisticated analytic methods and Serving as a backup to the Data Analyst position within the ITS unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable experience in data engineering and analytics including hands-on work with data pipelines cloud platforms and database management leading to valuable insights and improved business performance. Demonstrated ability to organize and conduct Data Engineer/analytics projects; to build systems to extract and transform small and large multi-structured datasets for analysis. Experience in the structure and functionality of IT databases concerning their uses and developing queries. Knowledge and understanding of technical areas: programming languages query languages systems analysis data modeling data warehousing data visualization and machine learning. Knowledge of structured analysis principles and techniques. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect organize analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy from within databases. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous data projects to meet deadlines and to work successfully with clients and OSIG staff. Demonstrated ability to develop actionable insights from in-depth data research and the application of statistics and analytics. High school graduate or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
Experience in database systems design and programming languages and business intelligence applications.
