Job Description

Job Title: SME Systems Engineering Integrator

Location: Hill AFB UT (On-Site)

Canvas is seeking a SME Systems Engineering Integrator.

Duties:

This position is to provide advisory and assistance services to the Air Force. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert in systems engineering principles and practices with a focus on integrating complex systems.
  • Provide expert guidance on the integration of diverse engineering disciplines including electrical mechanical aerospace and software engineering.
  • Lead the development and implementation of systems integration strategies ensuring seamless interoperability and optimal performance across various system components.
  • Architect ground test facility/capability re-alignments across squadrons.
  • Orchestrate multiple engagements with Defense Industry partners and emphasize objectives to motivate industry alignments and investments.
  • Develop manage and maintain comprehensive requirements documents ensuring traceability from high-level objectives to detailed design specifications.
  • Lead the requirements validation and verification processes ensuring that all system requirements are met through rigorous testing and analysis.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels including engineers managers and customers to ensure that everyone is informed about system integration progress and challenges.
  • Identify and implement improvements to systems engineering processes and procedures enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay up to date on the latest industry trends and best practices in systems engineering and advocate for their adoption within the organization.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Share expertise and knowledge with other team members fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering (e.g. Electrical Aerospace Mechanical Systems Engineering) Physics or a closely related technical field.
  • 15 years of progressively responsible experience in test and evaluation program management systems engineering or a related field.
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead motivate and manage large multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals.
    • Program Management: Expertise in program management methodologies and best practices (e.g. PMP Agile).
    • Budget Management: Proven ability to manage large budgets effectively and efficiently.
    • Decision-Making: Ability to make sound and timely decisions under pressure.
    • Conflict Resolution: Ability to resolve conflicts effectively and build consensus.
    • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Communication & Interpersonal:
    • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate effectively with government agencies industry partners and other stakeholders.
    • Briefing Skills: Ability to effectively brief senior leaders and decision-makers.
  • Technical & Analytical:
    • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices particularly in aircraft and weapon systems.
    • Test & Evaluation: Expertise in test and evaluation methodologies including flight test and ground test.
    • Systems Engineering: Understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
    • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve complex technical and programmatic problems.
    • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Technical Skills (Beneficial/Depending on Specific Role):
    • Specific Weapon Systems: Knowledge of specific weapon systems and technologies relevant to the organizations mission (e.g. hypersonic weapons lasers radar systems).
    • Acquisition Processes: Deep understanding of government acquisition processes and regulations.
    • Security Clearance: Active security clearance (or ability to obtain one).
    • Ground Test Execution Priorities: Understanding of ground test execution priorities to support multiple DoD MDAPs.
  • Next-Generation Hypersonic Weapon System Ground Test Facilities: Experience with development and program execution for next-generation hypersonic weapon system ground test facilities.
  • Developmental Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E): Experience with DOT&E to address closure of mission capability gaps.

Security Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret/SCI security clearance.

Desired Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering (as above) or a related technical field. The Ph.D. is strongly preferred if the role involves significant research and development oversight or requires deep technical expertise in a specific area (e.g. lasers hypersonics).
  • Graduation from a recognized Test Pilot School (e.g. USAF Test Pilot School) or equivalent experience in flight test planning and execution. This is crucial if the role involves oversight of flight test programs.
  • Master of Strategic Studies or equivalent military education. This is especially relevant if the role involves interaction with government agencies or requires a strong understanding of defense acquisition processes.
  • Systems Engineering Expertise:
    • Requirements Management: Deep understanding of requirements management principles and practices.
    • System Architecture: Ability to develop and maintain system architectures.
    • Interface Design: Expertise in designing and managing system interfaces.
    • Integration: Proven ability to integrate diverse systems and components.
    • Verification & Validation: Expertise in verification and validation methodologies.
    • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Ability to apply MBSE principles and practices.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Technical Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of the technical domain relevant to the organizations mission (e.g. aerospace defense communications sensors).
    • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
    • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and the ability to analyze data to identify trends and patterns.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Technical Documentation: Ability to create and maintain clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Software and Tools:
    • Systems Engineering Tools: Proficiency with systems engineering tools (e.g. DOORS Cameo Systems Modeler Enterprise Architect).
    • Modeling and Simulation: Experience with modeling and simulation tools (e.g. MATLAB Simulink).
    • Configuration Management: Experience with configuration management tools and processes.
    • Specific Technologies: Deep expertise in specific technologies relevant to the organizations mission (e.g. radar systems communication systems sensor systems lasers data links).
    • Hypersonic Systems: Knowledge of hypersonic weapon systems and related technologies.
    • Open Skies Treaty: Experience with Open Skies Treaty.
    • Integration Experience: Expertise with Defense Industry partners and emphasize objectives to motivate industry alignments and investments.
    • Developmental Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E): Experience with DOT&E to address closure of mission capability gaps.
    • Software Development Skills: Basic software development skills (e.g. Python C) are beneficial for integrating software components.
