Summary:

As a key leader within the Strategic Sourcing function the individual will be tasked with managing multiple interlinked Category strategies ensuring collective understanding of opportunities solutioning vis a vis what is relevant to Stakeholders and ultimately tied to Companies priorities. They as the overall leader of a team will be expected to use an enterprise mindset to deliver across category boundaries and unlock additional value. This leader is also responsible to manage the team comprised of Associate Directors and Managers ensuring the oversight of the category life cycle which includes the development and implementation of multi-year sourcing strategies in addition to the ongoing management of strategic supplier relationships and performance evaluation.

Enabling Categories are comprised of Extender Workforce (Temporary Workers Consulting) HR Services Legal Services and Travel categories.

In partnership with Business Units and Finance this position will be tasked with setting categories objectives and will assume complete responsibility for their implementation. You will assist in the ongoing management of essential strategic suppliers to promote continuous improvement address complex challenges and uncover new opportunities that deliver outstanding value to Vertex and ultimately our patients. You will embody a commitment to lifelong learning demonstrating a strong sense of curiosity and adaptability while consistently seeking to broaden your expertise beyond your immediate remit as part of your personal development. In addition the Director is expected to identify and drive the optimization of internal sourcing processes workflows and interfaces in effort to reduce time of delivery and costs in support corporate objectives and industry best practices.

This position will be highly visible throughout the organization. As such the leader must be comfortable and adept in effectively communicating with Senior leaders.

This position is based in our Boston MA office or Paddington office London UK. This role requires a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in the office & 2 days remote on a weekly role is global and will require some travel to all other facilities and locations to establish / maintain key business stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise Thinking with multi categories perspective
  • Strong business partnering acumen to develop trusting and influential relationships with stakeholders understand business objectives and challenges bring supplier and marketplace expertise collaborate on multi-year strategic and operational plans and drive business outcomes.
  • Develop implement monitor and maintain categories strategies in partnership with Business stakeholders for all related sub-categories including continuous refreshment and improvement of category strategies to meet evolving business needs
  • Own the Supplier Performance/Relationship Management process including supplier performance monitoring.
  • Manage complex negotiations that often include other internal stakeholders such as Business Partners and Legal. Able to independently create comprehensive negotiation planners
  • Comprehensive Demand management understanding encompassing all stages from foundational set up and analytics to advance forecasting and influencing demand drivers.
  • Financial Acumen with a clear understanding of TCO and willingness to explore the broader implications beyond immediate remit.
  • Leads a team of 3 direct reports with a focus on developing talent and creating a high performing team environment as well as act as mentor to support Sourcing colleagues temporary workers etc

Required Education Experience and Competencies:

  • Bachelors Degree and MBA required
  • 10 years of strategic sourcing experience including relevant Indirect Procurement with multi categories expertise - Temp Consulting & Legal Services HR Services and Travel
  • Good understanding of the nuances associated with a regulated environment
  • AI-ready mindset passionate individual about AI opportunities and overall impact in Services area

  • Strong analytical capabilities Project management skills Good communication and presentation skills able to clearly articulate opinions in concise and persuasive manner
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. Comfortable interfacing and presenting to senior leadership in concise well-planned and clear manner.

Pay Range:

$175200 - $262800

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors including skills competencies experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
