Who Youll Work With

The Legal Compliance Regulatory and Government Affairs department is a diverse team comprised of attorneys and other professionals providing high quality advisory and transactional support with integrity and objectivity across all parts of the organization. The team ensures an operating environment that minimizes legal regulatory and reputational risks and complies with all laws and regulations and Corebridge policies and procedures. As a member of this team which has received industry recognition for its leadership and innovative solutions you will have the opportunity to participate in the award-winning Corebridge pro bono program.

About The Role

We are looking for an Assistant General Counsel to join our London legal team to support our Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Finance department. The CRE Finance department is responsible for handling multiple types of transactions including commercial mortgage loans construction finance back leverage and CMBS with deals sizes that vary significantly from $10 to $250 million. The CRE Finance department manages a global portfolio of real estate debt investments in excess of $40bn of which c.75% is in North America and c.25% is International (predominantly Europe).

The London legal team supports a broad range of real estate sectors and jurisdictions across Europe and other markets outside of North America. Our borrower client base ranges from major global private equity real estate managers and institutions to small private property companies developers and high net worth individuals. You will be joining a small dynamic legal team responsible for assisting with originating and executing new loans and secondary trades (typically 5-15 transactions per annum) and managing the existing international loan portfolio. You will report to the Head of Legal - International CRE Finance and will work closely with our origination underwriting and asset management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the formulation and negotiation of new commercial real estate finance transactions and the amendment repayment novation or other maintenance of existing transactions.
  • Review documents and instruments governing the rights obligations and remedies with respect to the international commercial real estate lending transactions of Corebridge Investments clients.
  • Advise Corebridge Investments in its capacity as an investment advisor for affiliates and third-party clients that are parties to or investors in international commercial real estate lending transactions.
  • Ensure Corebridge Investments compliance with all internal policies and relevant contractual and fiduciary responsibilities including to clients counterparties and other stakeholders.
  • Manage all aspects of relationships with external counsel financial advisors and other professionals representing Corebridge Investments and its clients.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with all Corebridge Investments business teams and other Corebridge lawyers in order to promote effective and efficient processes and successful results.
  • Contribute to the Corebridge Global Legal Compliance and Regulatory Departments broader goals and projects and developing expertise in other legal matters as required by business needs.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor in the U.K.
  • 5 years (PQE) experience at a major law firm with expertise in real estate finance (including construction finance).
  • Keen understanding of and appreciation for finance and credit markets demonstrated business acumen and a strong corporate legal background.
  • Top academic credentials excellent oral and written communication skills organisational skills the ability to balance a varied workload of shifting priorities maturity judgment and poise are all requirements for this position.

The lawyer will work at the Corebridge Investments office in London U.K. Corebridge will not assist with relocation costs. Compensation (including salary and bonus) and benefits will be competitive commensurate with experience.

This position is based in Corebridge Financials London office and is subject to our hybrid working policy which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely.
