DIVISION OF PEDIATRIC MEDICINE

The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO and University of Ottawa is recruiting 3 General Pediatricians to join the Division of Pediatric Medicine.
The ideal candidate will be Royal College certified or equivalent in Pediatrics. In addition they should also have a demonstrated interest in both research and education. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa at an academic rank commensurate with experience. While English is the language of the health record functionality in French is an asset.
The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together we provide outstanding patient care leading research and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns children and youth of the Ottawa area as well as those from Eastern Ontario Western Quebec Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions which includes Pediatric Medicine.
The Division of Pediatric Medicine is recruiting 3 Hospitalist Pediatricians. We operate an Admit Team which receives and assesses consultations from the Emergency Department for admission and takes primary responsibility for admitted patients until they are transferred to a ward three Clinical Teaching Units (CTUs) and a post hospitalization clinic (PHC). While our current primary need is for the Admit Team role as it was instituted as an innovative solution 1 year ago to help reduce delays in care you will also have opportunities to work on the CTU PHC and/or in a float role along with pro-rated participation in clinical on-call services

This role is integrated in the Division of Pediatric Medicine and offers other opportunities. As CHEO is a teaching hospital the supervision and teaching of learners is an important part of this role. The working commitment represents shift work and the shift distribution will vary based on the season.
CHEOs inpatient medical units admit a large breadth and volume of pediatric patients throughout the year. Encountered conditions are widely varied including children with medical complexity as well as those with common pediatric illnesses. There are approximately 3000 admissions and 16000 patient days annually on the CTU representing approximately 40% of the total inpatient hospital activity. CHEO has representation in all pediatric subspecialties.
The successful candidate will have extensive opportunity to develop clinical skills in pediatric hospital medicine in particular in caring for the acutely unwell and often undifferentiated child.
