Suicide Prevention Peer Worker Lived Experience Warmline (Part-Time 34.2 hours/week)

About Suicide Prevention Warmline

The Warmline is a free peer-led phone support service for people experiencing distress suicidal thoughts suicide attempts or bereavement. It offers emotional support and genuine connection from someone who gets it someone whos been there.

Warmline provides a safe space where people can speak with a trained peer worker who uses their own lived experience to offer empathy hope and understanding.

Whether a person is in distress grieving or navigating life with suicidality Warmline meets them where they are. Support is available seven days a week including evenings and weekends with the option of one-off or ongoing scheduled calls.

About the Role

You will provide compassionate phone-based support to people seeking connection and understanding. Your own recovery journey and lived experience will be at the heart of the work by offering participants a space where they feel validated safe heard and respected.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responding to initial call and conducting scheduled support calls
  • Holding non-judgmental peer-based conversations that support to validate and empower participants
  • Supporting participants to develop personalised coping strategies and safety plans
  • Exploring distress identifying strengths and promoting wellbeing through shared experience
  • Working closely with the Suicide Prevention Team Leader to ensure participants are matched and supported appropriately

Shift Details

This is a part-time position (34.2 hours/week) with the following hours:

  • Monday & Tuesday: 1pm 8pm
  • Wednesday: 10am - 6pm
  • Thursday: 12:30 - 8pm
  • Friday: 10am - 16:38

This is an office-based role and can be in Gympie or Rockhampton.

About you

You are someone with the ability to connect deeply and authentically through your shared experience. You believe in the power of hope and recovery and you want to help others find their way through difficult times.

Youll bring:

  • Lived experience of suicidality or suicide bereavement and a personal recovery journey
  • A compassionate non-judgmental approach and strong communication skills
  • Confidence in building rapport and holding meaningful conversations
  • A willingness to support others in safety planning and navigating support pathways

Requirements:

  • The right to work in Australia
  • Current Drivers Licence and ability to travel if required
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate Free online course
  • National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card in QLD)
  • Desirable - Certificate IV in Mental Health Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent experience in community or mental health services
